Thanks for the new thread where optimism can return for the time being. I still HATE Pittsburgh for what they do to us. You guys are in last, knock it off!!

Well, we lost game one in Minnesota to a tough lefty and we bounced back. Hopefully we can do it again. Then again, these are the Pirates and they are very annoying.

It seems that no matter how unknown these Pirate players are, we somehow find a way to lose. I never heard of half of these Pirates. I would honestly rather face the Yankees.

Oh well . . we got another game coming up. Time to think positive.

GO BREWERS !!!!

Here's a question... if Wise performs well tonight, and maybe goes 6 innings, does he become a favorite to take a rotation spot away from Obermueller?

This pundit says yes. Wes is sporting a .658 OPS against in innings 1-3, which spikes to .953 in innings 4-6.

Is that hot chick available (for trade)? If so, I hope Melvin finds him sexy.

Why, oh why, does Nedley always insist on bringing the infield in early in ballgames? It's 0-0 in the third... Wise gets a dribbler toward shortstop, but because Counsell is playing up on the grass, it gets between he and Wes. Does Nedley really think that preventing that *one* run is important? Are we going to only score 0 or 1 run this game?

Dumb.

Well, one of two things will occur:

1) we are so darn good we can conceed every 5th game... that is, we dont need a decent fifth stater

2) once we have tanked the next two weeks, then Dougie will say 'see we dont need Hendrickson, we were never really gonna complete anyway'

Thanks for giving us no change every fifth game Neddie and Dougie. We really appreciate it.

I just posted about my disgust and confusion about why we cannot beat Pitt in the game one thread, but I will repeat some here. Even though they (Pittsburgh) stink and our roster changes every year, we cannot beat them. I mean, it isnt like there are the same players out there and they cannot beat Pitt, like it is a mental thing. This is getting really disturbing.

Well, it is funny how a millions sabremathamatarians will come out of the woods to explain how mental things do not enter in the world of sabrebaseball... clutch hitting, etc.

But I have always argued that baseball players are human and mental issues do come into it. Let us look at Mr Fogg, era coming into today was 6.66. But that is pretty much how he has performed the last couple of years as a starter. And he walks a lot of guys and does not strike out many (about a 1.5k : 1bb) ratio. And he gives up lots of home runs. And way more hits that innings.

But, of course, today...

And the other time he faced us this year... gave up 1 run over 6 inns.

And in 2003... 4.18 era against us with 19k and 2 bb

Matt Wise's line tonight is horrible. Still, he was a victim of some bad luck... in the third, Bobby Hill blooped a jam-shot over shortstop for a hit and Abraham Nunez snuck a double down the line into right. The latter was hard hit, but a few inches either way and it is either foul or an out. Then the infield comes in, definitely questionable, and after Fogg grounds to shortstop, Tike Redman sneaks a worm-burner between Counsell and Helms for an RBI single. Jack Wilson popped out, and by then Wise really should have been out of the inning. Another base hit by Rob Mackowiak was followed by a walk, and then Jason Bay killed a double into the gap. That, and the double by Nunez, were really the only hard hit balls in that inning.

He did get lucky on Bay's lineout to third the inning previous, but it wasn't like the Pirates were smacking him around.

The only reason I mention this is because it would have been really nice if Wise would have taken this opportunity and run with it... run with it right into the #5 spot in the rotation. As is, a good start from Obermueller tomorrow will likely solidify his spot in the rotation for at least a few more outings.

Wouldn't it have been nice to see Ben Hendrickson out there tonight, though? I mean, seriously.

Pretty please? With sugar on top?

So I'm all excited today because I got done with work early and could sit home tonight and watch two games in a double header in a huge series with a division foe, and I've now turned off both games.....

Now I know how Red Sox fans feel when they play the Yankees.

I was thinking the same thing, AJAY... good call.

Even if we lose this game, we've still got two cracks at 'em tomorrow and Sunday. A split is still do-able, although it's going to be a lot more difficult now.

I really, truly, hate the Pirates. Not like I hate the Cubs, but they're getting close. And it's a shame, really... they seem like a likable bunch of guys and their city is cool and I dig their stadium. But I hate them. With a passion.

Burgleflickle.
