7/04/2004 Brewers (Capuano) at Pirates (Burnett)

Well the week ahead now becomes by far the biggest week of the year. After today the Brewers will still be 3 games above .500, much better than anyone had hoped for at this point. The key is how the team will respond against the Cubs and Reds. I guess we'll see how much the guys listen to Ned's "don't panic" speech.

you heard it here first (maybe) the brewers will come into the upcoming series with our top 3 pitchers (who cares about the scrubies pitchers) and we will sweep them right out of town, ned will motivate the guys, not a single person on the team has any confidence left in 'em, but WE WILL SHA-WEEP THE FREAKIN CUBS, and be 6 games above .500 (barring the PNC Park gods collapse)

optimism....yay!

Why do people insist on continuing to bring up 2001?

This isn't 2001. It's now. We're getting swept. It happens to everyone.

Yes, we're getting swept by the Pirates again. Yes, that's what hpapened before the great Tailspin of 2001. They are, however, 2 completely different teams.

I'm not telling people to not be negative about the team. I'm saying that at least use arguments relative to THIS team to say why you feel they can't cut it. Don't tell me that because they went in the crapper in 2001, they'll do it again this year, because that's nothing but a bunch of hooey.

...its not the same diff because they were in position to achieve a lot more.

The best argument against waiting until the deadline to go out and get a bat was displayed this weekend. If you wait to get a bat you might lose a crapload of games waiting for the deal to be made thus eliminating the need later on.

This season could go south in a big fat hurry. We got punked.

After being swept by the Pirates and our lackluster offense, if Jenks and Pods do not get it going, the Brewers will find themselves in last place and below .500 at the end of July.

This team does not hit or drive the ball. Most of the 12 hits today were infield hits or bloop hits. The only person in this lineup that is a threat is Overbay. But he is not much a threat because nobody in the top of the line-up gets on.

The Pirates are a better offensive team and if they continue to get average starting pitching the Crew is in a world of hurt.

Now come on, be nice.

Frustrated is a common word to describe me when it comes to the Brewers of the last 12 years. I have history on my side. If they go out and do better than I think they will more power to them.

Now I have to go find a sturdy structure to go hide under, the sky is falling!!!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

we just went on an emotional roller coaster where we were 7 games above .500 to losing 4 in a row against a last place team (albeit a good/hot last place team).

We were "basking in the glory" as one thread would have it 4 days ago. That was a big time high in Brewers rescent history. 7 games over .500...WOW. Then one bad game turns into 4 bad games...even though it was only a sweep and 4 games...it feels like we fell a lot farther than we did.

4 games, thats it...it happens

Just like this team went from GREAT to POOR...they can go from POOR to GREAT

I'll say this for the fourth time this series. The most disturbing thing about this series is that we play the NL Central for like the next month straight, and we just got swept by the worst team of the bunch, with probably the worst offense, and just mediocre pitching...now we play the Cubs, Reds, and other NL Central foes. If the Pirates handle us like this...

Lets just say I have been fearing these Cubs games all year long. I was really hoping to take 2 out of 4 vs. the Pirates so we'd still be 7 over when we faced the Cubs. Wrigley North should be a hoping place these next 6 weeks.

Spivey's injury us terrible for us, because I really didnt think we needed to get another RH bat, I thought we could tweak from within. I still oppose trading parts of the future for a chance to win this year...there are too many teams competing for one playoff spot.

Along the trade talk lines, this is a perfect example why we SHOULDNT trade for a bat, because even with an extra bat we needed about 7 runs a game to win anything this series. WE may be an afterthought come July 31, and by trading Parra, or DLR or Nelson or Krynzel would be worthless if we fell out of the race. The Brewers wont say it, but I will, I realistically am hoping for a winning season, and not much else. If we play .500 baseball the rest of the way out I will be thrilled.

PS. I'd bring up the fact that I warned about the Pitts Series to be a la 2001, but then again, about half of Brewer Nation predicted this egg laying incident
