I don't think you can get into the park early enough to watch the Brewers take BP, tho I could be wrong.

The last time we tried that several years ago we got in as soon as the gates were open and the visitors (the Reds, I think) we already taking BP.

You can only watch the Brewers' take BP on selected days, I think just Sundays (might be Saturdays, too, not entirely sure). I've gone to several Sunday games and if you get there when the gates open, you get to see the Brewers' hit for a good bit of time. Its a lot of fun.

Since Peavey has called this one a win, I'm really confident. I'm beginning to wonder whether he's of this world or not... seems kinda like some sort of omnipotent creature, like Q of Star Trek TNG fame.

How's that for a geeky game thread reference? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Would like to see Hall start at 2nd tonight, as well as Grieve in RF and Moeller at C. What is it with Gary Bennett catching? I know someone said it's to help the young catchers but so far he's been doing NOTHING to help the team. In plain English, Gary Bennett sucks and is washed up! I wish he'd retire already...

Good looking lineup for the Brewcrew.

Also, while reading the link to the cubs forum that batman supplied, I came across a few people who very much enjoyed Sutton and Schroeder. Another reason to hate Cubs fans, I guess.

It all has to do with then we open up the ballpark. On weekend and holidays, we open 2 hrs early, and during the week we open the doors 11/2 hrs before the first pitch. If you wanna see the brewers BP, go on a weekend game.

Cool... thanks for clarifying. Its worth it to watch the Brewers' take BP, if anyone is considering it and hasn't done so before.

Anyway, onto the game-related stuff:

- Nice to see Wes with a day off... who says Nedley doesn't read brewerfan? Its interesting that Ginter is playing third and Billy second, as Nedley could have swapped them, but that's what I would do, too. Gint has a lot more experience at third and Hall at second, so I think this positioning maximizes their defensive value.

- If you haven't read the DB series preview, I included a bunch of links to Reds' blogs and newspaper coverage. There's also a link to Reds Zone, a brewerfan forum-esque message board that is very active. If you like to check out opponents' views during/after the games, check it out. They're a nice community of fans, although their style of posting is a lot more "snipetty," meaning more shorter posts. Still, its definitely worth a looksy.

- Bill and Daron just did their "most surprising player of the first half" and chose Overbay and Counsell, respectively. I'd have to go with Ben Sheets, although both of the above are certainly in the conversation (as are several others). If you could only pick one, who would it be?

Let's go team.

Daron just said "Helms might get the next few days off." I'm floored.

I hope JR, who's covering the club this series in Adam McCalvy's absence, gets on top of this and hooks us up with the details.

The offense hasn't been good tonight, but Cappy has kept it close. Couple thoughts:

- Gigantic strike zone tonight, especially horizontally. Neither team seems to have figured that out yet, and so the pitchers are really exploiting the extended corners. (EDIT: The strike zone is now gigantic vertically, too... Podsednik just struck out at a pitch a good three inches below his knees, and strike one to Counsell was in a similar location. This is one of the biggest zones we've seen in a while).

- Aaron Harang has been very solid since returning from the DL a few weeks ago. He went five scoreless at home against PIttsburgh and allowed one run in six innings at home against Cleveland. We might be catching him at the worst possible time, 'cause that's the best he's thrown all year. If he was pitching through elbow pain earlier, the rest might have really been helpful.

As I write this, Cappy just surrendered a home run to Wily Mo to make it 3-0. Capuano has looked really good, but he's been uber-susceptible to the gopher ball a la Ben Sheets in 2003. Hopefully Mike Maddux can work his magic and help Chris cut down on that... its really his only fault at this point, although he could keep the walks down a bit more.

Hopefully we can put together a late rally. Harang threw 94 and 105 pitches in his last two outings, the only two he's made since coming off the DL, FYI.

I'm having flashbacks to a 4 game series that occurred about one week ago. What the hell is the matter with these guys??? They played excellent, playoff caliber type baseball against the Cubs and now back to looking like they're in Pittsburgh again. Come on guys, get it going!!!
