Before the season, I started a poll here on Brewerfan.

WHAT WILL SHEETS DO?!?

1.) Will he continue to be the mid 4 ERA guy he has been up til now, a solid # 3-4 type pitcher?

2.) Will he regress and pitch worse than he ever has?

3.) Will he step up and become the ace we've all hoped he could be?

Is the question answered now?

This is still fun. Unlike Geoff Jenkins grounding out to second, winning never gets old.

Ginter with a pick on "an absolute shorthot smash" with "base hit written all over it" to end it. I'm down with that. Anybody see it?

I love this team.

Seriously OhioBrew, this is the 2nd time you've insisted that Sheets isn't first, and you're STILL WRONG. Get off it already! Sheesh.

Well, I don't think he was trying to be mean about it......

And 9-1 going to Victor the vampire's start tomorrow http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Just to be sure Peavey, your instincts still tell you that Sleepy's gonna get the job done tomorrow?

I don't think I'll survive another game if you don't provide a prediction. What are you lately, like 25-1? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Now that's what we're talking about. Clutch hits, great defensive plays, snubbed first baseman getting on twice out of four times and scoring twice, and Ben Sheets getting better and better. 5 runs for Ben! Let's get the one tomorrow and roll in the second half!

OH and it stunk we couldn't watch it!

Way to go Brewers!

Ben Sheets is awesome...

I know he leads in ERA but I am sure Randy Johnson has 145 k's while our Ben has 133 K's...

I thought I read on a prior post the Sheets leads in both ERA and strikeouts....

Well it doesn't really matter...

I can honestly say I wouldn't trade Sheets for ANY pitcher in MLB right now!!!! I am glad he is ours... Lets lock him up!!!!

9-1 over the last 10 games (back to the Pitt series).

And yes, I think Victor will get the job done (or at least that the team will win).

Is Sheets on path to post the best season for a SP in 'Crew history?

Well, he'd have to break the 20 win barrier and with the Cy for that to be the case to pass Teddy and Vuke.... and Caldwell's 20-whatever CG's is pretty tough to beat as well....

Let's play devil's advocate here.

Hypothetical for Ben

18-8

245 K's

2.25 ERA

I'd have to say that'd rank right up there, huh?

IF he were to continue to pitch the way he is right now, and if the offense can even get him lets say...... 4 runs per game average, he could make a run at 20 wins, though I'd figure it's pretty unlikely.

Well the 20 CG are really fair to apply to today's game. Cy young is as much a popularity contest as production. So, I think not winning that also would not disqualify Ben from the great Brewer starter of all-time.

Now W's, well we all were pretty sure that when Ben was only one game over, it was due to the O and not him, so W's can't be a major factor either.

I would say we would have to go with ERA and K/BB ratio

Magic Formula:

1. Hold on for the Sheets' win tonight.

2. The Vampire has some daytime fun Sunday -- win.

3. Cubbies lose again at STL Sunday.

4. Giants lose either tonight or Sunday vs. ARZ.

That, my friends, will have the Brewers in the wild card lead by percentage points at the All-Star Break, and wouldn't that be a topic of discussion for the Fox broadcast team Tuesday night!

Upon further review, the Giants would have to lose tonight and Sunday...

Cetainly the best in modern (bad) Brewers history. I never thought I'd see a pitcher this dominant in a Brewers uniform again until the team was sold. Not that I don't trust the farm system, but guys who pitch like Sheets has this year don't come around that often, and often don't dominate until their early FA years.
