7-10-2004: Reds (Lidle) @ Brewers (Sheets)

All I know is, it's now July 10th, the Brewers are a game and a half out of the wild card (we might as well root for St. Louis to win the remainder of their games against the Cubs, Reds, and Astros this year). If the Cubs lose today (they're trailing), the Brewers would actually be even in the loss column for the wild card lead. Pittsburgh's going to be a royal pain to all the above-mentioned teams, and all the NL East and West contenders have flaws of some sort.

So yes, the Brewers have lost six of nine with an abysmal offensive performance, and are still in the competitive situation described above. I'm not planning a playoff trip to Milwaukee, but the raw numbers of the standings can't be denied.

The Crew has a better chance of getting real hot (and let's face it, someone's going to grab this wild card race by the horns soon), as long as the pitching remains solid. I mean a better chance of getting hot than if they had been winning games 9-7 all season.

In our heart of hearts, I believe we're all realistic deep down. But the truth is every single game does matter in a big way right now, and I've never gone out of my way more to accommodate the other important things in my life to enjoy this team day in, day out. It's been too long, and it's fun. Damn right.

Let's see, Chad Moeller owns Cory Lidle (cycle), Sheets is throwing, and fans get this -- oh yeah, good night coming up...

Free tix, free preferred parking, gorman thomas bobbleheads and Ben Sheets on the mound.... how can I go wrong tonight?

You could get nailed by a baseball...?

Your car could get towed...?

Your bobblehead could be a "William Hung" bobblehead instead.

Just teasin ya, Brian.

What's your take of the new format of espn.com's boards? Looks like they did a crappy job of ripping of your format here http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Brady Clark needs to play, so Ben Grieve sits. Still no Wes Helms, though.

Clark doesn't need to be cut, he just needs to play less. He's a valuable MLB player, insomuch as so are many other 5th OF types. Magruder has a better chance to be a 4th OFer in the bigs, but neither really fit the bill right now. Clark has more experience, so he gets the nod as the 4th guy. It just so happens that Yost likes playing the 4th guy too much. It's a bad situation, but it'll work itself out soon enough.

BTW did you see in the Cubs game on Fox they had a poll on who got ripped off the most by not being on the NL All Star team. Ramirez for the Cubs won with Overbay coming in third. I didn't catch who the other 3 were. Joe Buck said he agreed and I understand picking Ramirez since it was a Cubs game.

You tell me who had better stats:

307 AB, 60 runs, 100 hits, 22 2B, 15 HR, 56 RBI, .326 BA, .374 OB%, .924 OPS

or

319 AB 44 runs, 108 hits, 36 2B, 9 HR, 61 RBI, .339 BA, .402 OB% .945 OPS

I'm disappointed in Joe Buck for not knowing his stats.

BTW one more hit and run for Lyle!

On many nights, both of Brady's deep fly balls are caught (watching the Cincy feed while listening to Bob and Jim). That being said, he got good wood on each and has looked about 100% more comfortable at the plate than he did for all of May and most of June.
