07/15/2004: Brewers (Davis) at Cubs (Prior)

I said it before, and I'll say it again. A team that even THINKS it has an outside shot at the wildcard can't have a # 3 hitter with a sub .750 OPS and hope to compete.

First pitch, weak grounder, imagine that.

I hate to say this, please don't vilify me guys, but a VERY SMALL part of me almost wishes Jenks goes down for a while, and we called up Hart who sparks the offense!

Ok, dream over. Seriously, is sucking for 90 games a "slump"?

a bad call at first against the Crew and Jenks, but I'm getting sick of him grounding out up the middle and to the right side so much. Geoff, anyone can tell you you are awesome when you go the other way!

On a sidenote, congrats to Jenkins for setting a new single season high for his career...in GiDP

Jose Macias has Jenkins Disease... he swings at absolutely everything *except* fastballs right down the middle. I don't get guys like that.

Bennett's fastball/sinker looks good tonight, but the Cubs aren't having any trouble with it. He doesn't have an off-speed pitch of note (and as I write that, Bill Schroeder says the same thing) and that makes it tough to keep hitters off balance. He should try to learn a changeup of some sort (or if he has one, learn to trust it more). Since he tends to go 5 or more days without pitching, he's got a lot of time to work on that.

And on an unrelated note, Sammy looks horrible. In past years, I've always been nervous when he was hitting against us. Now? I almost expect a K or 6-3 grounder.

Lets PH for Ben Grieve now, with nobody on and one out in the 8th, but not PH for Moeller with two guys on base in the sixth in a game where runs are at a premium.

Im sorry, but Yost is a HORRIBLE in-game manager. Not shocking, because they say the same things sometimes with Bobby Cox...

Great AB by Brady... wow. That was excellent.

Now Gint gets to face Farnsworth. Kyle hadn't pitched in a week until this past weekend after experiencing some soreness in his arm.

Gotta be patient... dude can be wild.

EDIT: And by the way, do you think that soreness could be attributed to the fact that he had been pitching pretty much every single day and throwing 100mph? Me, too.

EDIT: And just like that, four pitches and a walk to Gint. Nice job, Keith.

It's Magruder time. He's 2-for-2 with 2 walks, BTW. Can I get a 3-for-3?

Careful what you say about Yost JaN! Some would have us believe that his RA RA attitude MORE than makes up for the fact that he's nearly clueless with his in game decisions.

Anyone who has been here long enough knows that I am NOT a Yost fan. He might be a great motivator, which in-and-of itself is a good thing in pro sports, but he is one of the poorer in-game managers in baseball today.

There are two more important people on that coaching staff than Ned Yost: Mike Maddux and Rich Dauer.

Argh... just got under it. Not a bad at-bat, though.

Why do we pinch-hit for Moeller here but not a few innings previous?

I don't get it. I like this move, though. C'mon Brooks.

Wow, Dusty avoids the smart move.

Dusty's good at that.

YEEESSS!!! Nice play by Ramon Martinez, but Brooks showed his vicious speed and beat it out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

That was a nice pitch, too. Great job, Toolshed!!!
