07/16/2004: Brewers (Santos) at Cubs (Clement)

ja002h

The Vampire has to get up early again today, and that's never a good thing. Meanwhile, Clement lost his last Brewers start only because Sheets was pitching for us.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Let's get a win!

edit: It may be a day game, but it's also a road game for Santos (6-0,3.29). Which trend will win out??

Why couldn't Santos have started yesterday and Davis today? Does Nedley not realize the dramatic difference between sunshine Victor and darkness Victor? If not, that's pretty lame. If he does, and he chose to start him today anyway, why?

Not a huge deal, but I just don't understand the reasoning.

Someone should try to find something (meaning I'd like to know but no clue how to find out) about why Santos is better at night. It couold be randomn (especially since most pitchers do better at night) or it maybe something about how he pitches that makes picking up his ball really difficult at night.

Pretty big one today. A loss would put a lot of pressure on the last two games of the series, a win gets the 'Crew even and a good chance to take the series with Sheets on Saturday. I sure hope that we can get some early offense. We need Junior back!

Butch's words of advice for today's game should be...."Guys, choke up!"

He was asked about it after struggling in the start at home against the Twins and had this to say:

"I have the same routine, the same preparation. I think it's just coincidence. Today I just had no control of the fastball. I fell behind, and you can't get hitters out like that."

I wish we had access to his minor league splits, 'cause that might help determine whether this is just luck or if its a larger trend. I really have no idea how else to figure out what's up.

What Bill? You don't have access to a large collection of tapes to chart Santos' release point and to follow the ball in day vs night? waht kind of fan are you? I mean I'm sure The Rick has hundreds of tapes of Boston pitchers!

Ah, The Rick. If only I was that cool. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

If Santos' Vampire split keeps up for another month or two, I'm sure I'll be motivated to figure it out somehow. At this point, though, I'm just going to hope he turns things around, 'cause that might be a difficult project. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hey Batman! I think I may understand the reasoning behind this question of yours..."Why couldn't Santos have started yesterday and Davis today? Does Nedley not realize the dramatic difference between sunshine Victor and darkness Victor? If not, that's pretty lame. If he does, and he chose to start him today anyway, why?"

If the Vampire had started yesterday, he would be throwing on just three days rest since he started the last game before the break (Mon, Tues and Weds). So by going today he gets the regular 4. In fact, he's the only Brewer who did not get any extended time in between starts. Guess it just works out that way.

From what I hear about the weather, if there are any thunderstorms, they will be fairly quick ones, lasting less than an hour.

Where I am, 'bout 45 minutes from Wrigley, there isn't a cloud in the sky and it's a perfect day for baseball, except for the oppressive humidity.

Just like last week Steve Stone is giving Santos no respect. He just called him below average and expects the Cubs to score first time through. Man, Chip and Stone are such homers. I guess thats fine since they';re Cubs broadcasters, but the guy is 8-3 in the Major Leagues so throw him at least a little bone, Stoney.

The way I look at it I hope it does rain, because with that lineup that is one of only two ways we don't lose today. I really like Yost and the turnaround he and Melvin have had on the Crew, but come on already. How much Wes Helms can they stand. The guy frickin stinks. In our last matchup vs. Clement we mustered 6 or so walks......so let's start Clark instead of Grieve. Man I just don't get it. And then throw in Bennett who seems as though to be 0 - June and July and you have quite a lineup. Let's hope Pods goes 4-4 with 2 doubles and 3 sb's and Overbay goes 3-4 w/ 3 rbi's, cause that is the only way this team will score 3 runs today! How 'bout giving this one a try Yost.

Podsednik

Ginter

Overbay

Jenkins

Grieve

Hall

Catcher of the day

Counsell

Pitcher

Excluding pitchers, every guy but Overbay is hitting below .260 and the only scrub under .260 is their eighth hitter. I thought our offense was something we didn't have to worry about, and our pitching was. Goes to show what experts, fans and contributors to this great site know about how a season (or half of one) will turn out.

I guess that's why they play the game.
