7/21/2004: Brewers (Santos) @ Cardinals (Williams)

um . . . I actually hope Sheets DOESN'T pitch 13 innings of shutout ball.

Because that means the BREWERS aren't scoring either!

I, for one, am content to just take it and soak up the succulent crumbs of yummy goodness served up by the front office. Sure, Santos could be a one-year wonder and Davis a fluke, but don?t you see that we are small market team prospecting for future gold. It should not matter if we mine a few nuggets on the way to baseball nirvana, we should be content with any wins since this is a throwaway year. On Melvin?s map x marks the spot in 2007 and death to the infidels who deviate from the almighty plan! Did we ever deviate from Infallible Sal?s Stagnation Plan? NO! Did we deviate from the Copy Cleveland Plan? NO!

Nor should we take advantage of serendipitous circumstances now! The Milwaukee Brewers have a job security plan in place that will keep the front office employed for several years, while the board tries for the big payday. Success is an inconvenience. Winning was not on the map. However, I am content. Happy that my baseball overlords see fit to humor me with at least half a team. Complaining about the current state of the team is unpatriotic, un-American and just plain selfish. We should be perfectly content automatons, willing to throw our money and time toward the smoke and mirrors of the future, despite the fact that it is the same script as the past 20 years with a few different actors and a lower budget.

ARRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!

Darn it, Doug Melvin! Why haven't you taken that $27.5 million and added a power-hitting right-fielder, a power-hitting third-baseman, and a power-hitting catcher? Who cares if they would cost ten million dollars that we don't have and a handful of our best prospects? Just do it. If I was the GM, I would do it. You suck.

I hope before Melvin folds up his map for 3 1/2 years he checks the depart date of one, Mr Sheets. He may name Ben as the opening day starter only to find he is not with us anymore.

And, unfortunately, Rogers will not be here yet. I think he is scheduled for arrival in 2012, so that means we will need to tred water on a small payroll between 2007 and 2012. Oh, well. We have enough practice at that.

So the key will be to sign our better players, Sheets, Kolb, Santos, Davis, Counsell to 8 year contrats - quick.

No fair inserting logic into a good post loss rant.
