7/21/2004: Brewers (Santos) @ Cardinals (Williams)

7rebmun

Someone has got to get this bandwagon rolling again, so I took it upon myself. You people can't actually be working at work today, can you?

Victor Santos (9-3, 3.80) squares off against Woody Williams (6-6, 4.2http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif at Busch Stadium tonight. Santos looks to go 8-0 on the road this year, and bring the Crew back to 3 games above .500

"Victor-y goes against Williams tonight, and tries to continue his brilliance on the road (7-0, 2.84) and at night (7-1, 2.47). Williams has handled the Crew in the past (9-5, 3.31), but in two appearances this season has been hit fairly hard, and beaten in one while picking up a ND in the other, which was a 9-4 Cardinal win thanks to the brilliant pitching of one Adrian Hernandez."

I for one feel good about this series, and tonights game in particular. I think we can get to Williams and force STL to put up 6-7 runs to win, which most nights is no problem for them but I think Vic can throw a beauty tonight and get us back on the winning track. We have 5 more games on this road trip and I see us going 3-2 to get back to 3 games over .500 heading into the next homestand.

brettac1 - I took the liberty of posting your commentary and links in the thread as well. Didn't want to lose your good work.

Jenks aparently owns Williams http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Evidently, the Brewers season is over. 2-4 over a 6 game stretch and no one is excited anymore?

Well I'm guessing they are going to take it to the Cards tonight. Jenkins and Overbay have been hitting well, and I'm sure since Cousell is batting .115 against Williams we'll see Bill E Hall in there tonight. Or at least I hope. It would be nice to see a big first inning and let Victor take over from there. So that's what I'm predicting. 7-3, on the strength of a 5 run first inning! GO CREW!

gotta say I like our chances here. We seem to be holding our own with the Cards. We all feel comfortable playing the Reds. But our multi-year slumps vs the Pirates and Reds really hurts. We need to have a good 5 games here vs the Cards and Astros

What are the match-ups in Houston? I believe its Clemens, Redding, and Munro - which hopefully means at least two out of three for the Crew.

By my calculations here's the match-ups:

Santos v. Williams: Even

Sheets v. Marquis: Ad. Brewers

Capuano v. Clemens: Ad. Astros

Hendrickson v. Redding: Even, due to Redding's history v. the Crew

Davis v. Munro: Ad. Brewers

I think they should go no less than 3-2 in these five games, and would hope for 4-1 - IF they can score some f'n runs!

"2-4 over the last 6 games and no one is excited anymore"

Well, they are actually 2-5 in the last 7, 3-7 in the last 10 and 6-11 in the last 17.

Against the Bucs and Reds they are 1-9 since July 2nd.

No matter how you slice it, those are not encouraging numbers.

More on scheduling: The Reds schedule thru Aug. is virtually identical, except swap STL for MIL. So they have it tough too. The question, is who will be better over the next month - the NL East or the West? Because we play the East almost exclusively in August...

After watching the Cards-Cubs game yesterday, I came away being totally impressed with the Cards offense, an awesome lineup. The pitching is the weakpoint, in order to win, the Brewers better put up some big numbers. Too bad our offense is not as powerful as the Cards, I'll take a split and be very happy with that!

The Brewers should be able to garner a split this series, especially with Sheets going tomorrow. And Santos, who knows, maybe he'll keep up his masterful road/night performance.

Score some runs and I think a sweep could be in order.

Maybe a way to get the Brewers to pull together and start smokin' the ball would be to pull out a card board cutout of Wendy and have Yost tell his club, "Every time we win, we peel a section!"

Wait a minute, EEEEW! Maybe he'd need to say, "every time we lose, we peel a section". That'd REALLY get the Crew to start smokin' the ball!

(sorry, long day of work as we just started school today--yes I'm a teacher, and not a student! )
