"Matt Kinney is a guy who they haven't been able to find a lot of innings for lately. The starting pitching has been so good." -- Bill Schroeder

True? Not really.

Brewers' relievers in July, sorted by appearances:

 G IP --------------------------- Luis Vizcaino 11 10.1 Matt Kinney 9 9.0 Jeff Bennett 9 10.0 Mike Adams 8 7.1 Dan Kolb 7 6.1 Dave Burba 6 8.2 Matt Wise 5 8.2 Brooks Kieschnick 2 3.0

Kinney was worked the second most times and has worked the third most innings. He's now worked once in each of the last three series, including a two inning appearance in each of the last two series.

He hasn't exactly been over-used, but I don't think he's someone to isolate as "not getting enough innings" unless you say the same thing is true of everyone but Vizco.

And on an unrelated note, Jeff Kent is a mental gidget.

And that's stupid, because Hendrickson had two starts before yesterday. Doug has been getting hammered in July, too. How is Hendrickson supposed to develop as an MLB pitcher if he is yanked at the first sign of danger? If that would have happened, BH would have been pulled in the 1st, or again in the 4th.

Jose Vizcaino threw batting practice yesterday. As a result, "he's a guy who does everything for his team," to quote Bill Schroeder.

I know Vizcaino is a great guy and is known as a great clubhouse leader, but *** does throwing batting practice have to do with how good of a teammate a player is? That's a ridiculous statement in a long line of ridiculous statements he and Darron have made today.

I know this is like the 250th time I've done this on today's game thread, but Milkman Schroeder is really getting on my nerves today, even more than usual.

Is it your opinion that Hendrickson was getting knocked around and on the verge of being touched up for several runs?

The score was 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Jason Lane homered on a good pitch... it was just great hitting. Then Craig Biggio got sawed off and blooped a ball over second for a single, and Adam Everett rolled a ball on a hit and run that came to rest in short right. Neither of those hits represented solid contact, but Yost came running out of the dugout to remove Hendrickson.

To me, that represents a complete lack of confidence in the young man's abilities. He pitched out of an enormous, Helms-induced jam the inning previous, which would hopefully mean something in the "is this dude a battler?" category.

Hendrickson was not getting bombed. Not at all. Doug Davis was getting bombed today, but he got to stay in. And the same has been true of Obermueller much of the season.

Little Ben deserves a chance to pitch. He deserves a longer leash. If he fails, so be it. He did not have a high pitch count, and he had been throwing very well.

Powell and Ueck work just fine for me.

It doesn't sync up for me, or I would be doing the same thing. I even lived through the delay for a few games, but I just can't stand that, either. I think I'll try it with the sound off... I think a little blues music would go good with today's game... maybe I'll turn on some Howlin' Wolf and sulk. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

TV, in Wauwatosa (or West Bend). I actually haven't tried tuning in a different radio affiliate than TMJ, though... that's an idea.

If anyone else lives in either of the above-mentioned areas and gets TW Cable (in 'Tosa) or Charter Cable (in WB), does the radio sync up with your TV feed?

Well, on this next homestand the Brewers will take "The Way We Play" to its correct position of last place. This last road trip proved that every team in the NL Central has a better offensive team and our pitching has been playing above their heads. Of course no offense since May hasn't helped.

I think this is going to be a long 2nd half and the rebuilding program isn't as far along as we thought. The minor league talent we have is over-rated. I think all our prospects have not had the year the Brewers thought they would have and the Crew cannot seem to keep our pitching prospects healthy(Jones, Parra, Saenz, etc). Hendrickson isn't there and I don't think he will pan out as a quality ML starter.

"This last road trip proved that every team in the NL Central has a better offensive team"

This has proven pretty much every team in MLB has a better offense than the Brewers. Man without Overbay the Expos would be laughing heartily at us. This offense reminds me of the pitching staffs of years past, just complete suckitude.

Well, Davis didn't look great today but he's doing two things I really like:

1). 1st pitch strikes - he gets ahead in the count but sometimes can't locate well or he forces pitches leading to the batters putting wood on the ball.

2). Strikeouts adding up - Ks are adding up for Doug Davis as he is being a more "dominating" pitcher as the season progresses. It's unfortunate that he (along with the rest of the staff) cannot get run support but I am hoping it will come in time.
