7/27/2004: Brewers (Sheets) v. Cubs (Maddux)

brettac1

Let's talk about our players, like perhaps Doug Davis (who just signed a new contract) or Russell Branyan (who just joined the team) or our minor leaguers (maybe Trent Durrington who is playing in the Olympics, which is an interesting "human interest" story).

I'd be willing to bet they don't even know Doug signed a contract extension. Or that they know very little about our minor leagues.

But if you bring up anything about Greg Maddux, or if you ask Daron ANYTHING regarding the Anaheim Angels, he could talk for days.

And there it was going to commercial AGAIN....Greg Maddux 3 outs away from #299. Jeez, I turn it back on after an hour on radio to watch Branyan bat and Sutton's still at it. Shut Up!!

Is he a different man now that he's approaching 300 wins?

*** kind of question is that? Why would he be? And why do we have to be subjected once again to the (non-)insights of Paul Bako?

This is soooo stupid. They should both be fired on the basis of tonight's broadcast alone. These two put together are more of a Cubs' homer than Stone and Caray or Hughes and Santo. *They'd* be impressed with how much pro-Maddux drooling has been spewed forth tonight by the wonder twins.

Wow. People get so touchy when a team starts losing. Take a deep breath and look at brewerfan.net's season predictions. No one thought this team was going to be very good. The last month has been amazing with a lot of you guys.

The last month has sucked, the first couple of months were awesome, i wish i had one of those zapper deals that they have in Men In Black and just erase all memory that the month of july ever happened for the brewers

I'm about as optimistic about the team as anyone on brewerfan, bucksbeat, it's the broadcasters that have drawn my ire. You are free to either defend them, agree with me, or ignore me altogether.

And if you don't agree with a criticism of the team, you're also free to dispute it. This isn't an issue of taking the moral high ground or what-have-you... people are frustrated, and that's okay.

I agree with that wholeheartedly.

There is no question that the Brewers are an improved club, especially on the mound. Still, nobody wants to see the Brewers play this badly, no matter what the preseason predictions were. If anyone actually says that they have enjoyed watching the Brewers play this month, they would be lying. I mean, look at this crowd tonight...while I don't mind The Keg being filled up, its embarassing that 2/3 of the crowd are fans of the other team. It would be like Lambeau being 2/3 full of Vikings fans, or the Kohl Center being 2/3 full of Michigan St. fans.

If the Brewers truly want the fans to believe that this team is turning the corner, they have to play like it. This month, this club is looking like the one of 2002.

The Cubs clear the bases without getting a hit.

EDIT: Didn't I say earlier that this team is on the verge of a monumental collapse? We might already be there.

Jeff Bennett needs to go on the DL for a while and spend some time figuring out what's wrong. I'm no expert, but I think a good diagnosis would be "shoudler discomfort" or perhaps "elbow tenderness." He could also have "forearm soreness" or even "knee tendinitis."

Whatever it is, I think spending some time at Indy would do him (and us) some good.

I can't see getting so mad about Darron/Bill,it's not a new thing that they blow and are about as bad as it gets.I've long given up caring about what they say,but then again i'm a channel surfer,i couldnt have sat and watched that whole game.Once the Cubs had 4 runs,i knew the game was over,i just checked in once in awhile to mainly watch Branyan bat.

I honestly think Ben Hendrickson should hitch a ride to Indy with him. Let him go back to the Indians and dominate. This is NOT the situation I want this young man in as he learns how to pitch in the majors. This club is melting down in a hurry.

Bottom of the 9th, one out:

Daron Sutton: "If you ask Ned Yost and Dusty Baker about Greg Maddux's bad April, they tell you the same thing..."

Seriously. The Brewers ought to be ashmed these two men are in the broadcast booth.

Last Place: "Welcome back, Milwaukee. Haven't seen you in a while. How you doin'?"

Milwaukee: "Oh, pretty good. We hadn't seen Third and Fourth Place for a while, so we decided to take a little bit of an extended vacation and paid them a visit. We also swung by Fifth Place for a couple days, too."

Last Place: "Glad to see you guys again. Pittsburgh was starting to get on my nerves. Hogging the TV, eatin' all my food...I just said, 'To hell with it...here are some wins, get the heck out of here."

Milwaukee: Yeah, I know, those guys in Pittsburgh are losers."

Last Place: "Grab a seat. I'll get the beer and chips"

Milwaukee: "No rush. We'll probably stay for a while."
