8/5/2004: Brewers (Santos) vs. Mets (Zambrano)

ja002h

"11-6, 2 more runs and the crew is officially back "in the game"

Sorry, Russ, but with one out, and Clark & Helms due up with runners on, you're not really back in the game.

These 2 clowns couldn't drive anyone home if they had a school bus, and it was a block and a half away.

"So if this fruit's a Brewer's fan, his ass gotta be from Wisconsin...(or Chicago)."

there is definitely a difference between a and b, but in helms's case i don't see why it's wrong to be glad it happened.

it was a temporary injury and the end result was helms playing less, which is what most brewers fans want anyway. so helms didn't get to play baseball for a few weeks, so what?there are a lot worse fates to have. not to mention it gave us the chance to give more pa's to ginter and hall, who deserve them more than helms at this point.

regardless of how helms got hurt or gets hurt in the future, i will be glad it happens so long as it has no long term, negative effects on his life and has a positive effect on the team's win/loss record, which is inevitable.

if that makes me cold hearted or an ******, i'm sorry, but helms shouldn't get nearly as many pa's as he gets and yost has been reluctant at best to take him out of the lineup. if a minor/freak injury is what it takes to get him out of the lineup, then that's what i'll have to settle for.

Any chance the Mets will do a straight up trade - Helms for Wright?? C'mon both of them were big time prospects coming out of the minor leagues! Ah, sometimes i humor myself! That kid definitely looks like the real deal. I hope some of our prospects look this impressive when they make it up to the bigs.

Someone feel sorry for me - I was at today's game. What a crapfest. Once the score was 0-6 within 20 minutes of the first pitch, I had this bad flashback to that Dodger game in '02 (?) when Shawn Green had the four homeruns. Much like what Glendon Rusch experienced that day, it was instantly obvious that our Victor didn't have it. Honestly, couldn't someone try to keep Santos out of the day games? Is he not night-and-day enough?

And that was before the Brewers' defense had a chance to, um, shine. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Also before the Kinney cameo. That was when I took a walk. (Note to Ned: Try Burba first next time. Could it make matters worse?)

As Batman once said, "bad yuck boo."

It's worth something that the home team actually put together some hits + runs, which they didn't do in response to a huge early hole in 2002. But today I'm tired of searching for the nuggets of moral victory.

For those of you who had audio access: Did you hear the nearly constant chants of "Strike Him Out", "Get a Hit" and the like? That was the huge group of youngsters right behind us. I don't know how those kids had any voice at the end of the game. I appreciate their enthusiasm to an extent, but not once I can't make myself heard to the person sitting next to me.

OK, I'm done. Thanks for the rant time.

Are you still having "fun" at the games???? This organization and team makes you wonder at times why you even go.

Oh, we still have fun. The fun we (all) had prior to the all-star break - of on-field action that was truly enjoyable for the home team - was better than the "fun" we had today (standing ovations when Dave Burba actually completed some 1-2-3 innings; hoping Mike DeJean would see action so I could really get my heckling game on; and the weather was about as perfect as you could want for baseball). We also have come to know most of the Brewers staff (ushers, etc) assigned to our section, and we genuinely enjoy catching up with them. We don't have seat nazis in our part of the park.

I was in a worse mood when I sent my previous post than I am now. I entered the 2004 season hoping I wouldn't feel like I had to defend my choice to buy season tickets (like I've sometimes felt in 02 and 03), and in the first half of the season I was pleasantly surprised. Today's game was the worst all-around I have seen in person this year, hence the tone in my first post.

Plus those preteen girls screeching behind us got irritating at times. Not like the Dime Family from June (I bet Shampoo4U remembers them), but too loud at times. I like an occasional weekday game, but only occasionally due to those kid crowds. It was redeeming to see a small group of preteen boys try to launch some counter-chants toward the end of the game.
