8/6/2004: Brewers (Sheets) @ Marlins (Burnett)

brettac1

Well, this is the stuff that makes is painful to follow the Brewers. Compare the last two half innings. See what we do and manage to score a whooping ONE run. See what the Marlins do (and we do to HELP) and they score TWO.

All things being equal, you gotta match the other team. But we manage to get less from more.

Jesus. Helms is playing in at third, and a ball hit like six inches to his right gets by because his reaction time plus range is worse than Grieve's.

Ben Sheets should throw a 95mph fastball at Caveman's head. It's way too hot in Miami for our franchise pitcher to be laboring like this for no reason other than our third-baseman's incompetence.

Errors, etc., yada yada yada, but what's up with Sheets?

They're not really putting many good swings together against him, so I don't think there's anything wrong. The fact that he's wearing a sweatshirt under his jersey and it's like 300 degrees with 100% humidity has me worried about him, though...

I might just take him out right now if I was his manager. I mean, this is the kind of inning/environment that causes injuries. How many pitches has he thrown this inning?

a couple of infield singles and couple of seeing eye singles to the outfield.... equal 4 runs and no win

This is Major League! Wendy has corrupted some of our players to throw the games... not to move the Brewers, but to lower how much money Ben will get in arby.

If a guy is 9 - 14 on the year with a 2.25 era how much money will he get?

To answer my own questions, I think Sheets threw 29 pitches that inning. He's up to 81 total... that's worrisome given the weather and the number of high-leverage pitches he threw last inning.

I hope Nedley takes him out early tonight... one more inning is more than enough.

All I can say is why in the hell do you play the infield in in the fourth f'n inning? You can blame Helms for the first two, but the last one is on Dauer/Yost for playing him in. That makes no sense. They've been getting to Burnett and they have their best pitcher on the mound, yet they find another new and creative way to screw up a game.
