The thing that is starting to bother me about Sheets, is not the home runs given up, power pitches give up homers, but he seems to be giving up more hits per inning pitch than he did in the 1st half. Today's game was almost 1:1.

I don't think he is using his third pitch enough. Fastball-Curve gets pretty predictable.

I think I need help with the acronym. But I'll guess, though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Batting Average on Balls In Play?

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

You deserve to lose when the tying run comes to the plate and you let Chris Magruder bat when Brooks Kieschnick and Ben Grieve are both sitting on the bench.

Again, Grieve is hurt. A lot of good it would do to have him PH in that situation, eh?

Our manager sucks, people. Simple as that.

Like I said last night, which no one seemed eager to respond to:

Pods is just emulating the manager.

Oh really?

What exactly did Ned do during the game tonight that made you think that he 'doesn't know what's going on out there?'

I know you're a big Yost hater, but I honestly don't understand why. Yeah, the Helms love-fest is getting old, but I don't see why Ned continues to draw so much venom from the armchair managers on these boards.

According to Yost in THIS MORNING'S paper:

Brewers rightfielder Ben Grieve did not start Thursday despite carrying a .538 lifetime average (7 for 13) against Braves starter Jaret Wright. Yost said Grieve had been bothered by swelling near his calf, a problem caused by Baker's cysts, which cause a fluid buildup in the knee.

"Ben could play if we needed him," Yost said. "We're just keeping him available to pinch-hit right now. We don't want to make it worse."

So, apparently Yost felt the Brewers didn't "need" Grieve enough with the tying run at the plate, huh?

The fact that Yost let Magruder hit with the tying run at the plate when guys like Grieve and Kieschnick, the two guys on the Brewers bench with any ounce of power, are left on the bench watching is INEXCUSABLE.

I know you're a big Yost hater, but I honestly don't understand why

I simply don't think Yost is a good manager. Period. While the Brewers aren't the most talented bunch by any stretch, he isn't maximizing the talent he does have. A good deal of his in-game moves are puzzling at best, and the handling of the current roster is ridiculous with regards to playing time.

Yost may be a hell of a motivator, and that's great...motivating pro athletes isn't an easy job. However, just because he is a good motivator doesn't mean that he is a good manager and that he should get a 'pass' for obvious blunders he makes in a game.

I guess what my point really comes down to, is that there's no way Ned PH's for him when he just won the game 2 days ago. It's not like it's Durrington up there or something.

Not saying Brooks wouldn't be a better choice, but not gonna happen.

Yes, and I couldn't agree more with this. The reasoning behind Ned's choices in lineups and random structure of them all seems so strange to me. I happen to think he is a great motivator but like you said, if you're not a good manager it doesn't mean a thing. You can have the most motivated guys on the world on your team but if motivation doesn't translate into results than it doesn't matter at all.

I hate to tell you this, but if Yost is a bad manager and makes obvious blunders, then there are many of the "top" managers that are considerably worse than him. This year alone, Yost has out-managed Ron Gardenhire, Art Howe, Bob Melvin, and Dusty Baker, to name a few.

Name me off a few managers that are noticably better at in-game managing than Yost. I think you'll find that there really aren't that many managers that are that much better.

I know I'm late to this little party, but Ben Grieve did have a helmet on and was "swinging" (not really, just sort of stretching and doing the usual right-before-you-pinch-hit-drill) a bat next to Kieschnick as the ninth started yesterday. I presume they went to Kieschnick when he became the tying run, as has been Nedley's MO all year. Grieve was certainly available and ready to pinch-hit for Magruder, though.
