8/14/2004: Brewers (De La Rosa) v. Marlins (Willis)

brettac1

Our bullpen has gone to total crap.

Yeah, you're right. They haven't done well as of late. If there's anything encouraging about this game it's that Branyan walked. Not that it matters because there's one out in the 9th and we're down 10 runs! Maybe Doug Davis will get us a win tomorrow.

The Brewers will win this game

Don't feel too bad Peavey. I predicted that the Crew wouldn't score.

2 straight wild pitches, a run comes in, and this one is almost officially in the books.

But I WAS right about that one, wasn't I!?!?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif

For those wondering, Jorge topped out a few times at 94 tonight. Toward the later innings it was more consistantly around 89-91.

Ok...maybe later innings is a bad way to put it.....

Anyway, his change was nice and about 74-77. If he was composed and could get his curve over....there's promise. I was begging for just one curve on the black when he'd get ahead 0-2/1-2. He just couldn't get an out pitch over and it was a bit tough to watch.

And no, the Gumby bobblehead isn't the best ever. At least on mine, the paint job is pretty crappy.

Ah, geez. A piece of crap bobblehead (no offense, Gumby) to go with a piece of crap game. One of my officemates was hoping to go with her sister, and since they are Twins fans I figured it was worth asking if they were looking for a more appropriate home (i.e. mine) for the bobbles. They might still go for it (if they went at all), but I almost hate to ask after what they would have sat through.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Just got back from the game... I liked de la Rosa. Much less painful to watch than Hendrickson. Threw one slow curve that clocked at 70mph (not sure if that was accurate or not). Not afraid to throw his changeup.

Wasn't too fond of the lineup. It was funny, when Willis came to bat the first time his BA was .235 and the guy next to me said "If we had a pitcher hitting over .235, we'd use him as a pinch hitter." A little later, here came Wes to pinch hit.

I just got back from the game too. I parked near the McDonald's/IHOP in the Village of West Milwaukee. I paid $0.00 for parking, took a 9 minute walk to the ball park, and I was on I-94 headed back to Madison in no time when the game was over.

In addition to the ridiculous Wes Obermueller pinch hit, why didn't Jenkins pinch hit for Magruder in the 7th (or maybe it was 8th) when the game was still in reach? I know Magruder was 2 for 3 at that point in the game, but come on!!

Nice crowd. I guessed 42k when the game started and it turned out to be just over 40k. The paint job on the bobble heads were kinda crappy. Additionally, I have an extra white Jim Gantner bobble I want to trade for a Gorman Thomas one. Check my post in the trading post section.

Just got back myself. I have never even seen a booble head before so I guess it was worth a week worth of drinking money to watch this indy league event.

I would bash the line up too, except Margruder and Durington provided most of the entertainment in the game.

Polish sausage still tastes good.

JDLR looked solid. I wasn't paying real close attention to his velocity but it seemed to sit at 90-93. In the first, ball 3 should have been strike 3 to Castillo.

All in all I look forward to JDLR's next game.

Wow, that must have been an ugly game. What a lineup, I cannot remember a lineup that impotent anywhere in baseball. At least Yost used Bennet in a position where the game was not on the line. He's just not very good is he? I wonder if Doug is beginning to rethink his decision not to make any trades, of yeah we're playing for .500!

I've been looking at splits. Granted 2004 sample sizes become small and further examination is warranted, but it's pretty apparent that Ned is going overboard when he loads the lineup with righties when the Brewers face a lefty.

Without having looked at career stats, I'll hazard some guesses that could easily be subject to change:

? Overbay and Branyan should play, period.

? Helms' offense becomes acceptable vs. horrible.

? It would seem fine to play Durrington.

? Given Jenkins' stinky season, sitting him against certain lefties makes sense.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I went to the game nad wish top sum up some thoughts, some already said:

* Overbay and Branyan should NEVER be sat because a left is out there.

* I have NEVER seen such a pathetic lineup on any team in my life.

* Obermueller pinch hits in teh 5th and the media doesn't even mention it? Did I miss something? Who ever justified pinch hitting him in the 5th based on 25 Ab this year just doesn't get it.

Thank you again, Yost, for ruining my Saturday. 40 thousand fans were treated to your idiocy. But Wes, Clark and Trent started, so I guess you are happy.
