8/14/2004: Brewers (De La Rosa) v. Marlins (Willis)

brettac1

Tonight, fresh off a typical Obermueller gem last night, Jorge De La Rosa makes his big league debut at Miller Park taking on fellow lefty Dontrelle Willis. De La Rosa was acquired in the Richie Sexson trade, and had posted a 3-5 record and 5.21 ERA at AAA Indianapolis. However, he had pitched much better as of late (2-0, 2.00 ERA in his last three starts). Willis lost a tough decision last Sunday vs. the Brewers, in Florida, to Chris Capuano 2-0. Unfortunately, this game is not being televised on FSN, so those of us in WI will have to rely on the dulcet tones of Jim Powell and Bob Uecker to guide us through the start of a hopefully excellent ML career for DLR. Gametime is 6:05 CST. GO CREW!!!

No Jenkins, Overbay, or Branyan against the lefty Willis -- Brady Clark, Bill Hall, and Chris Magruder -- your prototypical major league 3-4-5 combo:

Podsednik CF

Durrington 3B

Clark RF

Hall 2B

Magruder LF

Helms 1B

Moeller C

Counsell SS

JDLR

And people wonder why I don't like Ned Yost...

Just look at that lineup he is going to trot out tonight.

Typical Brewers...Saturday night home game, beautiful night, bound to be a big crowd...and Yost fills out a lineup card that most AAA teams would chuckle at.

Nothing disgusts me more than this:

2: 3B Trent Durrington

boy wouldn't it be sweet if young Jorge De La Rosa could pull a D-Train story and give Milwaukee yet more hope for the future.

If Jorge avoids walking too many batters he has been tremendous this season. As of late he has located the strikezone well (judging by his K:BB ratio)...let's see some more positive pitching tonight.

This is a pitching line I am anxiously awaiting

Once again Russ Branyan isn't starting against a lefty, even though (as many have pointed out) his career track record is significantly better against lefties than righties.

I propose that we all submit e-mail questions to Jim Powell on the subject. Maybe if he sees the question often enough, he'll address the question on the air. It might also pay to start e-mailing others in the local press. Maybe someone will get a comment from Yost about this.

This might be worthy of a thread of its own. Jim has mentioned threads on this forum in the past, but I'd bet he's less likely to spend the time reading a long game thread.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Done.
As much as I hate having to give out my address and phone to companies, I've just sent my e-mail to Jim Powell.

i have sent an email as well to jim... pointing out how branyan has success vs. lefties in his career, and helms clearly is NOT the answer... also inquiring as to why a AAA lineup is trotted out there for dela Rosa's major league debut - its like Yost wants him to fail to send him back down and give some other has-been/never-will-be favorite of his a shot....

In the essence of fairness, I thought I'd throw this up. Maybe Ned decided to go against his own grain tonight and look at the stats.

Durrington: 1.111 OPS v. LHP (18 AB, 2 HR)

Clark: .390 OBP (69 AB, 9 BB, 7 K)

Helms: .286 AVG

Magruder also has a 1.250 OPS v. LHP, but it's the ultra small sample size of 8 AB's (2 BB, 1 HR). Jenkins, on the otherhand, has a .678 OPS and a .216 AVG, so that's probably the right move. I'd probably prefer to see Overbay at first, Helms at third, Clark in LF, and Branyan in RF. Whatever, I do disagree with Yost on tonight's line-up, but for argument's sake I thought this should be posted.
