8/15/2004: Brewers (Davis) v. Marlins (Beckett)

1992casey

rluzinski - You are very right. I think Bill Hall is a great guy (not a great player) - he can't make the easy defensive plays, but can make the very hard ones. And as you said, because he won a few games, most fans view him as a 'God' for lack of a better word. Earlier this year some website, I believe it was Fanball.com said that they hope Ned Yost caved into the pressure of starting Hall at SS over Craig Counsell because "the fans want it" and because of his "game winning home runs". It's nice that Hall won a few games with his bat, but with a bad OBP and horrible defense including today's mishap that cost Doug Davis his 11th win, we all know now that he's not that great of a player.

They didn't use Burba because he's been overworked. Wise was only available for one inning at the most today. Adams has been overworked lately, Bennett, too. Hendrickson was pretty much the only option. Would have been nice to have Kinney out there in the pen today, I really think they will regret that move. It makes no sense to me. He sucked as a starter, yes, and I ripped him when he was a starter. But, he was at least average as a RP. Whatever, this is sickening. When's the last series they won?

The beauty of these threads is I can avoid the game, and read the thread and feel all the ups and downs in about 10 mins. It is great.

So, thanks guys I felt the joy (Davis, Branyan) I felt the fall, the pain, the disappointment, the resignation...

Then I swore at the kids, yelled at the wife, kicked the dog, and apologised... it all took about 15 minutes. What a time saver!

Hall's stats suck.. unless you mean he's "clutch". In that case I will ask you to look at Pods from this year and last. I had to suffer through hearing how "clutch" Pods was last year, OVER AND OVER. This year, as awefull as Pods has been, he's batted almost 50 points lower in the clutch.

He had ONE good year in high desert (hitters league, no?) in 2001, so all all of a sudden he was labeled a "prospect". Now, there is no question he was rushed, hurting his development. The fact remains, however, he never played good defense and he never walked.

Hall can't play defense, he can't steal and he can't get on base. He has a little pop for a middle infielder, but it takes a little more than that to be a starter in the majors. I'm sure his offensive stats will imrpove over time, but never enough to warrant having his butcher of a glove on the field.
