Part of being a boss is making mistakes. Being a GOOD boss is admitting a mistake, and correcting it. BAD bosses compound the problem by pretending they didn't make a mistake, or hiding the fact they made a mistake, and continue to allow that mistake to fester and cause problems.

Doug, fix this mistake. Cut Helms. Eat the contract. Whatever.

I agree there, too. Admit the fact Helms sucks, get rid of him and stick with the guy who actually can put a few balls out of the park and make the plays at 3B. If Helms was better with the stick maybe I could put up with the occassional error...but not when it's an everday thing. Branyan actually looks good defensively at 3B and has the power to go along with it!

Yost, in the post game conferance about Branyan's performance tonight:

"We'll, everyone get's lucky, but I'm pretty sure the Cubs were telling him what pitches they were going to throw. I mean, he doesn't even like NASCAR! I mean, I've never hit ball after ball to HIM while I was a bench coach in Atlanta. I think it's obvious that Wes should start the rest of the year."

This one would have been nice....

i'm curious about the following:

the HR rate for miller park when the roof is closed, but the back "windows" are open, vs the closed roof vs the open roof. it seems every game i watch where the roof is closed, but the back "windows" are open it seems especially homerun prone.

the number of outs we've burned on unsuccesful sacrafice attempts.

is brady clark a posterboy for the new generation of ballplayers who lack "small ball" skills? at least he's not a butcher on defense.

I believe I'm developing a very serious "man-crush" on Russel Branyan here. If we don't re-sign him in the off-season, I may very well need a 12 step recovery program.

I developed the man-crush awhile ago, welcome to the club. I am slightly worried about whether or not he'll be re-upped this winter. A guy we just got for free may have already priced himself out of Milwaukee by proving that he may be worth a million a year (gasp!). Also, with Yost's love for Helms, you'd have to figure that Branyan may rather sign for another team at the same price because he may be a little peeved at Ned or worried that he'll rot on the bench all year long. We need a little divine intervention from Melvin: cut Helms and make it clear that Branyan is our guy, we can't leave it up to Yost.

I think perhaps it's time to give Ned a little bit of a break on playing Russ. The guy is playing afterall and it certainly looks like he would have been playing for the last 3 weeks had not his wrist flared up. The Battle was won because Russ took his chance and made the most of it. Loyalty isn't the worst trait for a manager to have as a fault. As long as he extends it to younger players too.

If Branyan stays in the lineup the rest of the year, its possible he could end up second on the team in home runs and as high as third in RBI. What does that say about the rest of the team?

By the way, teams have figured out that Overbay has trouble with offspeed pitches down in the zone. All the excitement over his performance the first half is starting to fade with his poor second half.

I had a man-crush on Scott Podsednik last year...and this year it's Doug Davis. Nah, we're not weird guys! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif Who cares, we're really into our team. Go Brewers!

igor, yes, Branyan is playing. But Neds language and quotes have been easily interpretable to lead a person to believe that that's not exactly the way Ned wants it. Backhanded compliments to Branyan (He's just hot right now) and constant mention of "There's still a platoon" and so on.

NOW, actions DO speak louder than words, and if Branyan continues to play everyday, I won't have a problem, and I WILL pipe down about it. But if Ned continues to bench Branyan against lefties, there's going to be some questions about why he does that.

Does anyone actually have a real reason why Yost is so obsessed with playing guys like Wes Helms, Brady Clark and Gary Bennett? For the most part, these guys have proven themselves to be scrubs (save Brady Clark who's doing well, except for that popped up bunt attempt last night!), and I'm still trying to figure out why Yost is so fascinated with starting Helms and Bennett when it's not Santos time to pitch. Anyone have any ideas?

and Gary Bennett?

I'd just like to point out that at this point, if you take out Moeller's cycle game, our catchers have virtually identical numbers. Sure, Gary Bennett sucks, but at this point, Moeller does to, so playing time isn't that big of a worry for me at catcher.
