I guess we can appreciate our normal pen now. It seems it is easy to find good relievers, but you can see how a couple of poor relievers (recently Hendrickson, Phelps) can really hurt you.

I wish Ned would stop mucking around. We had a game to win and he wants to 'steel' a new guy. I wish he gave Hendrickson so much rope. Why cant you just use these new guys in non pressure situations. There is the odd game where we are behind by the 5th and 6th inning.

Argh... I cannot believe we are losing this game. ***?

Anyone who has been listening and/or watching, please recap this inning for us. I'm pretty certain that the Gamecast doesn't tell the whole story.

Batman - Here's what happened. Mike Lieberthal hit a ground rule double that bounced over Podsednik and rolled over the fence. Marlon Byrd singled him in, and then Placido Polanco hit for Geoff Geary, singled to center. At this point Phelps comes out and in comes Luis Vizcaino. Jimmy Rollins flies out, but Jenkins runs in front of Podsednik and makes a wild throw to Bennett, luckily a run didn't score. At this point, 6-3 Brewers lead. Jason Michaels then comes up and doubles to left field (just to the right of the line), Byrd scored and Polanco goes to third. Abreu flew out and then they intentionally walk Thome to load the bases with two outs. Chase Utley hits a triple past Podsednik and three runs score (7-6 now and Phillies lead). Then David Bell singles Utley in, Phillies lead 8-6. Finally, Vizzy gets Lieberthal (first man up and last man down) to foul out!

Bill - no problem. Podsednik really couldn't make a play in either situation. The triple was a tough play that wasn't really close to him and the double actually rolled along the top of the fence and fell behind it, so Podsednik could just watch it go over.

I am sure glad that others are finally coming around to see that Yost is just another Milwaukee idiot. It must be something in the water of Milwaukee. Garner, Lopes, Royster and now Yost. All can talk a good game but when it comes to getting on the Tee-- they just hit them into the woods like the rest. In Yost case-- he can't putt worth crap.

It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible to be a fan of the Brewers.

No kidding. Driving back to Madison from Darlington tonight, I couldn't get 1070 on the radio until we were east of Mt. Horeb...just in time to hear Viz walk Thome and then promptly give up the game. West of Mt. Horeb, there was no sports on the radio but the Packers.

Besides, this, my brother and mother (who live in Darlington and Monroe) have no Brewers access. My brother's cable lineup will change next month to include Fox Sports Chicago. I imagine this is because the cable company is based in Waterloo, IA and they assume everyone in their area follows the Cubs (who of course are notoriously hard to find on TV). My mom has Dish Network, which in her area at least does not include FSN.

I don't know how (or whether) the Brewers manage to connect with anyone southwest of Madison.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Bonehead move of the day -

Ned Yost lets Travis Phelps hit for himself to lead off the seventh. Travis leads off with a strikeout, then heads out for his third inning of work and sets the table for the top of the Phillies lineup.

Anyone want to clue me in on this bit of strategy by Ned??

I don't blame Travis Phelps for being put in a situation where he obviously shouldn't have been after his last appearance, that is Yost's problem. But this guy has already worn out his welcome, and his two big league performances sandwiched by Ben Hendrickson's two-hitter in Indy have proved that the Brewers went with the wrong horse here. Hendrickson isn't going to get a whole lot better facing AAA hitters. He will struggle for awhile against ML hitters... most pitchers do. However, he will be a better pitcher than Phelps some day, and I'd rather he lose games than Phelps lose games.

Hmmm......

Now if we were back in the AL where we belong, Mr. Phelps nor any other Brewer pitcher would have to worry about coming to the plate.

55-66 and going nowhere fast. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
