9/6/2004: Brewers (Glover) @ Pirates (Vogelsong)

brettac1

With Santos scratched due to a middle finger injury, 27 year old RHP Gary Glover makes his Brewers and 2004 debut. He has appeared in 130 ML games, all but 19 of them in a White Sox uniform - and all of them in the American League. Glover has 33 career starts and has pitched 302.1 innings, compiling 170 K's and 107 BB. Opposing batters have hit Glover to the tune of .264, and he has a 1.38 career WHIP, while surrendering 43 HR. He has appeared twice in his career against the Pirates, allowing 1 ER (1 HR) in 2 IP. The only current Pirate with a hit against him is Jack Wilson, while Jason Kendall is 0-1. Squaring off against Glover and the Crew is the devastating Ryan Vogelsong (4-11, 6.41), who while being completely terrible against teams without barley sprigs on their hats, has dominated the Brewers this season in three starts (1-0, 2.64) and 17 innings of work. He has a 1.23 WHIP and has K'd 15. In his career against the Brewers, Vogelsong is 1-1 with a 5.48 ERA in 5 games (4 starts). At home this season he is 1-6 with a 7.50 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and .302 BAA. The Brewers with the most success against Vogelsong are Jenkins (3/7, 2B, HR, BB, 3 RBI) and Ginter (2/5, 2 2B, BB), as well as Gary Bennett (3/4). The game starts at 3:05 CT, and those of you with Dish Network and DirecTv should be able to see the game on ESPN alternate, if you have it.

No problem, brettac... nice to see someone else still interested. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

So do we know if the game is going to be on ESPN or not? My cable listing has the Expos at Cubs on ESPN2 at 3PM CDT and Pitt/South Florida college football on ESPN. Adam McCalvy's game preview has ESPN2 listed as the TV feed so is that going to happen?

Buehler?

I have Dish Net. and DirecTV at my house, and my program guide shows the game on the "ESPN2 Alternate" channel. This is where they show the regional games, the channels are 146 (DN) and 211(DTV). The regular ESPN alternate is supposed to have Tigers/Royals on right now, however it is not on because Yankees/D Rays is not on regular ESPN right now and poker is. So, I surmise that if the Cubs game is on the deuce, the Crew should be on the alternate. Hopefully.

It's pretty sad when you look at the Pirates' lineup next to ours and say "damn, they're stacked".

My Dish Network also has the game listed at 3:00. Thanks for the heads-up on that or I'd likely have never noticed. I've been able to take in lots of games down here since I found a sports bar with a 13" TV at every table that has the extra innings package, but I wouldn't have gone down there and spent money to watch the big Glover debut.

The Yankees/Rays will only play a single game today at 6. Also, the Pitt/South Florida game that ESPN was going to show has been postponed. ESPN has been running a crawl at the bottom of the screen saying that the Cubs/Expos or Brewers/Pirates will be on ESPN. If that's the case, I don't know what will be on ESPN2, since that is supposed to have the Cubs/Expos. I guess we'll find out at 3.
