No Krynzel, but Mark Johnson gets his first start of the season behind the plate for Lil' Ben.

With all the upcoming games against "contenders", I'm sure we'll hear reasons for not seeing David Krynzel, and to a lesser extent, Chris Magruder, in the line-up very often. Scotty Po couldn't sit against the very ordinary Josh Hancock and the woebegone Reds? Ned's taking this "I don't want to finish last" stuff to heart.

All season long, Friday night Brewerfan "viewership" has been down, down, down. You young 'uns must know how to have fun minus Wes Obermueller -- imagine that.

Nobody out, need baserunners, Krynzel pinch-hits, looks at two balls, then swings at ball three and dribbles a grounder -- has Dave got one out of the infield in his 14 AB's?

No. The hit was a hard grounder that bounced off the first-baseman and he beat it out.

Some game thoughts:

1> Why was Ben Hendrickson removed so early? He couldn't find his curveball, but what purpose exactly did bringing Wes Obermueller in serve? I guarantee if the circumstances were reversed and Obie was the starter Ned wouldn't have taken him out. I don't get it... why is Obie so much cooler than Lil' Ben in the eyes of our manager?

2> Adam Dunn annihilated Mark Johnson. Annihilated him. Welcome to the big leagues, I guess.

3> For those that missed it, this fan "caught" Jenkins' home run off his nose. Ouch. He is apparently fine, which makes me think his nose is made out of titanium.

4> The Reds' current outfield (Dunn, Pena, Kearns) has to be one of the biggest in baseball history. Those are three gigantic dudes playing in the same outfield... and they're pretty good, too.

5> Wes Obermueller did not pitch very well. Is anyone really surprised?

You know, I think Wes can pitch for a Major League team, but not one that is going to be successful. I don't mean this to be a rip. You can see him hang on and throw for a few teams that just need "a guy" for a portion of a year. However, can you really see him help anyone in a pennant drive? Except for in a mop up role out of the pen, it is hard to imagine.

This was actually one of his better outings, as he struck-out seven in three innings, but he still allowed four hits, a walk, and three runs. He is what he is at this point, and I don't see the motivation for Yost to find ways to get him innings at the expense of Hendrickson and De La Rosa. It just doesn't make sense to me.

This "we're not going to finish last" stuff is just lame. Who cares if we finish in fifth place or sixth place? While we're doing our merry best to battle out the schedule, the Reds are taking the opportunity to evaluate some young pitchers and position players like Brandon Claussen and Anderson Machado.

But not us. 'Cause you know, fifth place or even fourth place is sooo important. You've gotta show improvement, even if it means using guys who won't be here next year or won't play a big role to beat teams that are playing youngsters.

I'm proud.

Boo.

Yost said the Brewers are putting Hendrickson on a pitch count for the rest of the season because he's thrown 150+ innings or something like that, that's why he got the early hook.

makes sense, imo, especially considering what usually happens to Brewers pitching prospects. That still doesn't explain why De La Rosa won't get to start anymore though.

I personally hope Yost will be here for longer than Garner was. I love the job he's doing and fear anyone else brought in would be inferior. Our best recent manager was Garner, but unfortunately it was simply time for a change

I think I'd rather have a smart guy be manager. A guy like Mike Maddux would be perfect, although pitching coaches don't seem to become managers very often.

Of course, my dream scenario is for Rickey to be hired as player-manager, but that won't happen.
