This is how he's done it all year long. It's the 1 extra inning they try to push him which inflates his numbers.

yeah, I checked Wes's splits and he has a .700 OPS against in the first 3 innings and a .965 OPS against in the next 3 innings. However, that suggests to me that he sucks.

I love the softball shift. Bonds is now 0-for-2, and the Brewers continue to pitch to him. Good job, Ned (and Wes

I was at the Dbacks-Giants game on Sunday, and the same thing happened, although he didn't run as hard as last night and tonight. Still, three games in a row he's been thrown out from short rightfield shows how hard he hits the ball

More good work from Mr. Obermueller. I'd really like to see him have success, but at this point it's just not there yet, at least not on a consistent basis. His stuff is good, speaking particularly of his sinking fastball, and if he can throw strikes and get groundballs, he'll have a long and productive career.

That's all in the future, though. Tonight he's just got to get some more outs!

Not to mention that he also throws that sinking fastball at around 92-94.

Come on Russell, a run would be huge

Uh-oh. Hit to lead off the 6th. Here we go again....and now Bonds is up.

C'mon people, Wes is TRYING to throw strikes. Quit booing. He's at his limit.

The fateful 6th inning again. When will Nedley learn?

Ergh. WES CAN PITCH 5 INNINGS AND 5 INNINGS ONLY!!

edit: To be fair, he hadn't even thrown 80 pitches yet, and I agree more or less with letting him stay in for Snow, but it's just so darn frustrating for it to happen over and over and over. I think he's either gotta NEVER be allowed to go more than 5, or he needs to just be left out there until he gets out of an inning, no matter how bad it gets. It seems like it's more a mental thing at this point, and once a couple people get on late in the game he's just toast.

They should just use De La Rosa and Hendrickson as "buddies" with Obermueller. Four or five innings of good baseball is valuable... it's like a really good long relief pitcher. If you can get four good innings from Wes and two or three from one of the aforementioned duo (or Liriano, perhaps), then it's just like having a "regular" starter.

That's if we don't have a superior option to Wes in the rotation next year, which I hope we do. But if he can be a consistently good pitcher for two-five innings, then he's still going to be pretty valuable. And hopefully he can eventually get over this hump where he gets shelled in the fifth or sixth EVERY TIME, and then he'll be really valuable.

Or maybe he won't. I dunno... there's just so much promise there when he pitches well for a few innings in a row that it's disappointing to see him fall apart all the time.

Fact or Fiction:

"I respect their opinion," Yost said. "The front office has never, ever, even one time since I've been here, called down and said, 'Do this' or 'Do that.' They haven't even suggested anything."

Interesting.
