Chattanooga shackles Stars in 10-1 romp

Cueto allows five hits in six innings, swats bases-clearing double

Well, at least it didn't rain.

 

One night after the Stars got soaked and were smoked by the Chattanooga Lookouts, they played almost a mirror game Tuesday.

 

This time, the Stars lost 10-1 rather than 10-0 like Monday. This time, they had five hits rather than three. This time, the skies stayed clear through the ninth rather than open up.

 

That's about the extent of the "good" news.

 

"We don't feel good about this right now," second baseman Hernan Iribarren said. "You've got to give them credit, though. They've put a couple of good pitchers out there."

 

Lookouts starter Johnny Cueto worked six solid innings in his Double-A debut, allowing five hits and one run. Also, with the game still close in the fourth, Cueto ripped a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double.

 

It came off Stars starter Corey Thurman, who dropped to 2-5 on the season.

 

He allowed yet another home run, too - his 10th given up in 46 innings this year.

 

Last season, Thurman allowed eight in 140 innings.

 

He finished with six earned runs charged in four innings.

 

The Stars (3-6) struck first when Iribarren led off the game with a homer, his first of the season. Star prospect Jay Bruce again impressed, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Caonabo Cosme also went 4-for-5.
