09/17/2004 - Brewers (Sheets) at Astros (Oswalt)

Now that the Bonds circus has left town, the proletariat can focus on what they have temporarily forgotten- how bad the Brew Crew really is. Hopefully the team puts up an 11 spot for Sheets again.

Pitching matchup:

MIL: RHP Ben Sheets

11-11, 2.83 ERA in 2004

2-1, 1.00 ERA in 2004 vs. SF

8-3, 3.24 ERA lifetime vs. SF

HOU: RHP Roy Oswalt

17-9, 3.55 ERA in 2004

2-1, 3.66 ERA in 2004 vs. MIL

7-4, 3.79 ERA lifetime vs. MIL

Pretty active game thread tonight, LOL. If you wanna be really cool, tune into WTMJ and watch the Sox/Yanks game on ESPN. Or you could go out and do something... but that's a little *too* cool. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

EDIT: Good to see somebody else is out there, davego. You da' man.

Are you watching on Extra Innings, DHonks? If so, fill us in on the visuals... no local TV coverage for us 'sconsonites.

I have a feeling this is going to be a pitcher's duel (really going out on a limb there, huh?). These are two of the best right-handers in the league facing off, both with hard fastballs and big breaking curveballs. Sheets vs. Oswalt is probably second on my list of potential NL Central matchups, just behind Prior and Sheets. Maybe Wood and Sheets, too.

Anyway, Jenks just went deep. That's good to hear.

Yep. Okay, Oswolt looks awesome as always. Looks like he's in control, but then again I've never seen him look uncomfortable. Great velocity and curve as always. Haven't seen the devastating Changeup, but it's there.

Sheets was throwing his curve for strikes, a rarity in the 2nd half. He also had the same tight break from the first half. His heater is hitting 94-96 and looks unhittable.

Pods with a nice sliding grab in the first, as the liner kind of froze him. I still am amazed it got out that far...shows how well it was hit

Cool, thanks much DHonks. It would be nice to see Big Ben finish off the year strong, as he seems to be doing. Gotta keep throwing the curve for a strike, and he'll be a-okay.

Russell just made the defense irrelevant again. Beauty, thy name is Branyan.

2 terrible throws so far by Lamb at 3b. His throw in the first required Bagwell to come off the bag and make a great tag. His throw there to complete the DP required that Bagwell get really low and stretch

And great job by the catcher to get Branyan, however he was lucky. The ball actually entered his glove a tick after Branyan hit him, however, it happened to find its way in the glove and stay there, and the collision resulted in an obvious tag.

All in all, Branyan could have hit him harder and scored, but he didn't get low and try to plow through him, probably because he didn't have the ball and felt it was an unnecessary hit

Ginter doubles.... then homers... then doubles. Boo. It hit the yellow line, so it should be a home run.

EDIT: Unless hitting the yellow line isn't a homer. I thought it was, but maybe not.

In any case, it hit the yellow line and Ginter doubled.

EDIT AGAIN: From the official ground rules at MLB.com (LINK):

"Ball hits fence above yellow line, or top of railing in left center field - HOME RUN." (emphasis theirs)

So what if it hits the yellow line? Not a homer, or a homer? Confusing.

kind of like how people misinterpret the rules. For instance, a runner is out or safe....there technically is no such thing as "tie goes to the runner", because you are either safe or out.
