09/18/2004 - Brewers (Glover) at Astros (Munro)

batman

So I was sitting with my old college roommate the other night, discussing the dbacks. I suggested how they might make an effort to improve. First off, it appears they are targeting Clement and Pavano, but both could be pricing themselves out of AZ's range. Others to consider would be Radke, Lowe, and Ortiz (have seen this in writing actually). I also suggested a move that I've wished the Brewers would consider (Al agreed with me). That is that the Dbacks should try to acquire Kieschnick from the Crew, and give him a try as a starter. If he can go 5-6 innings and get 2 or 3 at bats every 5th day, while also being a pinch hitter, he could become even more productive than in a relief role.

Of course, I'd still consider this for the Crew for next year, but only if Kolb or Vizcaino is gone. As it stands now, it would seem that Adams and Liriano might be moving in as short-relievers (7th inning) with Bennett still holding his own.

Hey Mass, who was the pregame guest, anyone exciting?

Bill Castro, didn't hear it:

batman, I don't know why it has me inquisitive like yourself, but I too, want to know how to guess what the raw number is for the number of cars / households listening in on the Brewers' network to this 62-83 team on a mid-September Saturday night.

Heck, our chatroom holds 25 if we could invite them all over http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Scotty with four steals -- scoring position again.

Impressive because all four steals were second base...

That must tie a MLB record (second base) -- I wonder if anyone differentiates betwen stealing second and third and/or home as far as a record goes -- I doubt it...

To answer my own question regarding the Brewers' stolen base record, it is indeed owned by John Jaha and shared with Tommy Harper (and now Podsednik). Jaha did it on 09/12/1992... thanks to the wonderful Retrosheet, here's the box score from that game:

retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B...AL1992.htm

The first was the back-end of a double-steal with Molitor, the second and third were straight steals of (ahem) second and third, and the fourth was a straight steal of second.

Pretty impressive. The Brewers beat the Orioles at Oriole Park, 5-to-0, behind a five-hit shutout by Jaime Navarro.

Please, everyone: send some positive vibes the way of Danny Graves. He is currently on a little bump of dirt in Cincinnati, Ohio, if that helps you aim.

Thank you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Burgleflickle.

That was a heck of a game. Tons of kudos to Geoff for getting on against Lidge... he's really an amazing pitcher.

Those eleven hits are really nice, but a few more runs would be great next time.

Oh well.
