Nice to see the top two prospects--Fielder and Weeks--have big games.

Capallen pitched a lot better then Meyer. Of course that hardly proves which one is better but hey I'll take it.

Lee, Jenkins, Krynzel, and Branyan all playing well is great.

The one disapointment is Hendrickson not pitching well. Hopefully he turns things around and earns a spot in the rotation. I couldn't imagine sending him back down to AAA.

I couldn't have realistically expected better news than this. I just got done reading the entire thread, and it brought a huge smile to my face.

Kudos to our young hitters. It sounds like they really did a number on Oakland and Seattle as a group. Hopefully JJ gets into the action with few knocks tommorrow.

I think I am most excited that Hendrickson threw 3 groundball outs in the first inning. His curve must be diving today!

Had to address this one first. I was the dork at the game keeping notes (that happens when I go to a game alone). I had Ben at about 20 pitches when Magruder let the ball go over his head. If he catches it, Ben throws 2 innings allwoing a walk and a hit on a total of about 20-23 pitches. He finished at over 40, I think. I gave up on the tallies after Magruder's (mis)play, but I had him at 13 fastballs, 4 offspeed pitches. I would estimate that if Ben threw 42 pitches, he threw 6-7 offspeed pitches (curves and changeups), with at most 1 being a strike. His fastball was that good today that it was getting good big leaguers out. If you'll recall from the Fall League '03 (a long ways back), I figured he must have tons of movement, because he was throwing heaters over the plate and good top minor leaguers were barely making contact with it. Well, today Ben had that working along with another fastball. If I had to guess, he had an 88 mph 2seamer working along with a 93 mph 4seamer. There were two very distinct fastball speeds, and guys didn't do much with either of them.

Thanks to the guys who were there for all the reports. That's very cool.

For me, the thing that jumps out, the one thing that I'm even inclined to get a little excited about after just three spring training PAs, is Krynzel's three walks. I've been convinced by the start-him-in-AAA camp, but if he has really grown eyes, he could be useful a lot quicker than we thought.

Just a random thought out of the JS: in the item on Davis, he made a point of naming the assistant trainer who is working with him on his back. That's a small but very classy thing to do for a guy who probably has never seen his name in the paper before. Just another reason to like Doug.

Greg.

good point on Krynzel. Krynzel has always walked a fair amount in his career. The real problem has been his poor ratio of K's and BB's. When I've seen him I've thought the problem was that he appeared to be guessing what pitch was coming, not reacting. Same problem as Billy Hall and Jose Hernandez. It's like for him to decide to take a pitch he'd say "I'm going to take a pitch." Yes, it adds a pitch to an at bat, but he wasted some good first pitch fastballs. Last year in Milwaukee he looked better with this, though.

I still think he makes the club unless they add another CF. I just don't think Magruder is a viable big league option. He had two errors yesterday that led to at least 5 runs, and in Milwaukee last year he didn't show me anything offensively or defensively.
