Manatees GM Buck Rogers prior to Tuesday's game:

Who's Hot at the Plate?

Mat Gamel is currently on a 23-game hitting streak with 11 of those games being multiple hit games. Check out these numbers:

April's Batting Average: .230

May's Batting Average: .270

June's batting Average: .427

He's hitting .303 on the season.

If the opposing teams did their home work they'd see that the LH-batting Mat is hitting an eye-opening .388 against lefties (49 AB's) and.282 against righties. He's also more adept at getting those hits on the road (.336 on the road versus .263 at home). In fact, some other numbers that make Mat the go-to guy in crunch situations at the plate: he's batting .343 with runners on base, .351 with runners in scoring position and even .320 with runners in scoring position with two outs! Mat's only grounded into a double play three times all season.

Chris Errecart has hit safely in six of his last seven games and every one of those games was a multiple hit game. He's banging out a .313 batting average including a gaudy .412 average against left-handed pitching.

When the season started, Chris' bat was so hot he made the Chicago fire look like a girl scout campfire. He suffered an injury and short stay on the DL, but has gotten right back into the game where he left off and is again making opposing pitchers shake like a small dog next to a fire hydrant with fresh paint.

April's Batting Average: .360

May's Batting Average: .217

June's batting Average: .348

He's swatting an incredible .439 as the Manatees lead-off hitter this season in 39 plate appearances. Nothing like standing in there and ruining a no-hitter with the first at-bat.

He's also hitting .347 with bases empty.

They really need to find room for him in the outfield somewhere, because his bat seems way too good to be blocked by Braun for the next 6 years.

Promote Katin and stick Gamel in a corner outfield spot in Huntsville already!

Final: Chattanooga (Reds) 6, Huntsville 3

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Cosme Leads Looks to Another Win

Caonabo Cosme collected three hits, including a home run, and knocked in two to carry Chattanooga to a 6-3 win over Huntsville Wednesday afternoon at Joe Davis Stadium. The Lookouts improved to 8-2 in the second half of the season and 37-43 overall, while the Stars fell to 3-7 in the second half and 40-38 overall in losing a third straight game for a fifth time this season.

Brendan Katin?s leadoff home run in the second inning tied the game at one and the Stars took a 2-1 lead in the third when starting pitcher Steve Hammond reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Hernan Iribarren. Hammond worked three innings, giving up a run on one hit, walking one and fanning four before the game was delayed an hour and 37 minutes prior to the top of the fourth.

Jeff Housman took over for the Stars and retired the first two batters he faced before Cosme tied the game with an opposite field home run to right field, his fifth of the year and second in as many games. J.C. Boscan?s leadoff long ball, his first of the season, in the fifth, gave the Lookouts the lead for good before former Milwaukee Brewer Enrique Cruz doubled in two runs with two outs and scored on a Cosme single to complete a four-run rally. Housman suffered the loss after yielding a season-high five runs on a season-high seven hits in two innings of work. The Lookouts have totaled 26 runs on 39 hits in winning the last three games to square the season series at seven games apiece.

Ramon Ramirez and Brock Till each threw two scoreless frames behind starter Carlos Fisher, who did not return after the rain after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. Ramirez earned the win in his second double-A appearance and Josh Roenicke worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save at the double-A level. The Stars were held to three runs or less for a 14th time in the last 16 games and held to six hits or fewer for an 13th time in the last 18 contests.

The series continues Thursday night, as Huntsville will send southpaw Lindsay Gulin to the mound against Lookouts? right-hander Sam LeCure. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score:

Steve Hammond stolen base -- anything to score a run; nice work by Luis Pena and Marino Salas from the pen...

Does swapping Errecart and Brantley make too much sense? I know it is only 50 ABs for Brantley, but he isn't hitting. I really think it would help him to feed of off Sally League pitching, and get stronger in the process, readying him for a AA re-debut next season. Like Jim mentioned, Huntsville needs an offensive infusion... Chris Errecart is as likely as anyone on that Brevard roster to give it to them.

Final: Clearwater (Phillies) 8, Brevard County 7

Brevard County Box Score:

Yeah, Mat Gamel extended his hit streak to 25, but the 2nd of his two errors, his 39th on the season (before July 1st!), -- that 2nd error cost the 'Tees four unearned runs; despite scoring seven runs, Darren Ford and Lorenzo Cain 0-for-9 (one walk for Cain) at the top of the order; Angel Salome, Yohannis Perez, and Chris Errecart combine for eight singles -- it was a career game for Perez, a couple of two-run singles; for extra-base hits, you had J.R. Hopf's home run and Cole Gillespie's double...

Seidel rights his ship in his second game, as does Anundsen tonight, who is a groundball machine. While Gindl was my sleeper, or at least my pick to click, for this year's draft, Anundsen was my sleeper from last year's draft, and I hope this is the first of many similar appearances.

Angel Salome is really starting to click at Brevard. .320 AVG, with .843 OPS, he's obviously recovered from the broken bone. I like the 12 BB, 20 SO in 181 at bats as well, not spectacular, but plate discipline seems to be there and getting better.

Between him and Palmisano, we've got a really great chance at home grown (which also means long term) production at the catchers spot. Not to mention guys like Whiteside or Lucroy possibly making their mark in the coming years. Could be a real advantage for the Brewers.

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER SNAP SCORELESS SKID IN 12 INNING VICTORY

Taylor Green snapped West Virginia?s scoreless streak of 27 innings with an RBI single in the fourth inning of Wednesday night?s game at Lake Olmstead Stadium, and Green came through again with a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Power ahead for good as they snapped a three game losing streak with a 7-4 win over Augusta.

After Green?s run scoring base-knock in the fourth, Andrew Lefave touched home plate on an errant throw from second baseman Marcus Sanders. The Power took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning on another throwing error from Sanders which plated Lefave again. Augusta got their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on Ryan Rohlinger?s RBI groundout.

In the seventh, Mike McBryde singled in Dayton Buller to bring the GreenJackets within one but Kenny Holmberg ripped a bases loaded, RBI single in the eighth inning to put the lead back at two. Augusta tied the game with a pair of runs in the eighth. Rohlinger doubled in the first run and scored the tying run on a base hit from Brett Pill.

Green?s second RBI single highlighted a three run 12th inning for the Power. Holmberg followed Green?s base-hit with a sacrifice fly that scored Chuckie Caufield and Martin Maldonado singled in Green to finish the big inning.

Omar Aguilar (7-1) gave up two runs in the eighth inning, but followed with three scoreless frames to get the victory. Matt Kretzschmar (1) got the save in his 2007 Power debut while Dave Newton (2-1) was tagged with the loss. Left hander Brae Wright allowed two runs, one earned on six hits and struck out five through seven innings.

The Power improved to 51-24 overall and 3-4 in the second half, while the GreenJackets fell to 55-22 overall and 5-2 in the second half with the loss. The Power committed six errors, a season high. Lefave scored four times and had four base hits to lead the Power. Caufield, Green and Maldonado all chipped in with two hits a piece.

The Power will finish the four game series against the GreenJackets Thursday night. The Power will start right hander Alex Periard (3-1, 2.85) and Augusta will start right hander Kevin Pucetas (9-1, 1.67). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

West Virginia Box Score:

Eleven combined errors in this game, but as was noted during the broadcast, the Power in particular also made several fine defnsive plays; four of Brae Wright's last five stars have been quality -- encouraging...

To be fair he really struggled his first month in West Virginia too:

And for kid trying to develop power, Brevard County may not be the best place; however, if he got sent out to Arzona this fall, as a loyal Brantley backer I wouldnt be opposed.

Final: Missoula (Diamondbacks) 4, Helena 2

Helena Site Game Summary:

Brewer Rally Falls Short in Ninth

HELENA--Down three runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning, Helena had runners on first and second without any outs, but could not pull out the victory. Brewers Caleb Gindl and Jonathan Lucroy led off the inning with back-to-back singles, however, Helena could bring only one run to the plate. Pinch-hitter Eric Newton made contact allowing Gindl to score and cut the deficit to 4-2. The Brewers eventually loaded the bases for hitter Matt Cline but he quietly grounded out on an attempted check swing to end the game.

Althoug Helena provided some excitement during its final at-bat, a three-run Missoula seventh inning proved to be the difference. Both teams were tied 1-1 through six innings. Helena jumped ahead early with the first run of the game in the first inning on a home run by Caleb Gindl. Gindl hit the first pitch of the game he saw and extended his hitting streak to nine games with his first home run as a professional.

The Osprey knotted the game at 1-1 when Derrick Walker hit an RBI single in the third inning. Both offenses quieted down until the seventh inning when Missoula struck for three more runs that proved to be the difference. Reliever Curtis Pasma, who took over for starter Evan Anundsen, was charged with the three runs. Brock Kjeldgaard entered for Pasma in the seventh with two outs and shut down the Osprey the rest of the way.

Gindl finished with a 3-for-4 game and brought his batting average to .471 while Jonathan Lucroy and Jordan Swaydan collected a pair of hits each. For Missoula, Walker drove in three of the Osprey's four runs. Osprey starting pitcher Brian Henry earned his first win of the season going seven innings; Evan Scribner pitched two innings for his second save of the year.

With the Helena loss both teams are now tied with a 4-5 record. The Brewers and Osprey will now move the series to Missoula. Helena next plays at Missoula at 7:05 PM Thursday (8:05 Central).

Threshers outslug Manatees

John Urick crushed a grand slam in the fifth inning as visiting Clearwater edged Brevard County, 8-7, on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old designated hitter went 3-for-4 and slammed his sixth homer as the Threshers erased an early 6-0 deficit.

Clay Harris slugged a two-run shot, his fifth, in the fourth to extend his hitting streak to 15 games for Clearwater. The 24-year-old first baseman snapped a 6-6 tie with an RBI groundout in the sixth and Gregory Golson collected three hits and scored twice for the Threshers (5-2).

Reliever Brett Harker (1-2) yielded one run on three hits while striking out one over three innings for the win. William Savage fanned one in two perfect frames for his second save.

Yohannis Perez went 3-for-4 with a pair of two-run singles and J.R. Hopf clubbed his first homer (with Brevard County) for the Manatees (3-4).

Brevard County's Mat Gamel singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to a Florida State League season-high 25 games. The 21-year-old third baseman is batting .429 (39-for-91) during that stretch.

Reliever Patrick Ryan (2-2) was charged with two runs on four hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings and took the loss. -- Shane Figueroa/MLB.com
