3/15/05 Brewers (Capuano) @ Giants (Schmidt), 7:50 CT WTMJ

Matheny sucks. Always has. Its only against Milwaukee that he can hit. He has a career OPS of .629. Against Milwauke over the past three seasons hit he had an OPS of .903.

Yeah, he has our number, but I can never say that Matheny sucks. He may stink offensively, but he's one of those guys that earns his keep defensively. He's a treat to watch play, and as hard-nosed as they come.

And, IIRC, didn't Matheny go play in Toronto for a year or two before heading to St. Louis? ***I just checked, he sure did, in 1999.

And it was Brad Nelson that hit the 3-run HR. Just because he was sent down to minor league camp doesn't mean he can't get called up to play with the big league team when they need the bodies. There are quite a few young guys with the Brewers tonight, including Grant Richardson and Steve Sollmann according to Powell.

they said earlier that Moss, Rasheed, and Fermaint are all here...darn good defensive OF if you ask me. Knox actually in the field, not Rasheed. Cirillo at 3b, Scarborough SS, 2b? and Richardson at first

Also Brady and I think Segura are there, too

Borders now catching

so how much better are the brewers within the division with Wood and Prior questionable for opening day, Clement out of the division, and Sosa (brewers' killer) and Alou gone.

Then the Cards are without two of the biggest Brewers' killers in Matheny and Renteria.

I always hated when Kent was up, cause I knew he could kill us. Throw in that Berkman is out for what, 2 months? Then Brewers killer Wade Miller is in the AL (actually, DL in AL). All we need is the Pirates to deal the Wilson boys.

Every time I tune into a game, Rick Helling always seems to be in another jam. It drives me nuts.

On a side note . . . the very first game I went to at Fenway Park, Rick Helling gave up a million runs and the Rangers got crushed badly. I never had a great impression of Helling after that.

Helling survived. But all I can think is, why doesn't Maddux teach him the cutter or some other pitch. Helling would be an intriguing option for the rotation in at least April, since the rotation will feature very erratic rest. And gotta love the attitude about wanting to pitch 200 innings, 4.50 era or betterb
