04/01 - White Sox (Contreras) @ Brewers (Davis), 7:00 PM CT

Why did it take 4 innings for Hawk and DJ to figure out that Davis throws cutters?

"I think that was a cutter."

"Yah, that's what it was."

4th inning. I hear it.

Edit: Bottalico's breaking ball could be sick if he's able to establish control of his fastball.

Turnbow's throwin some gas.

now 7-6 in the 9th, Crew got an insurance run in the 8th when Swiss Army Rottino CRUSHED a 2b, and Cirillo brought him in with a squeeze later. Crowd loved it.

De la Rosa and Davis gave up the runs in the 8th.

I am too senile to put together the Brewer 7th. I do remember that Tony Gwynn, Jr. had a hit in that inning. Jeff Cirillo squeezed in a run in the 9th.

The Brewers curveballs looked a lot better in the 9th than in Arizona.

This is the first time I have seen Turnbow. He has "stuff". He could be the next Mitch Williams. Rickey Vaughn might be a better comparison. Does this outing mean that he is our closer?

Hardy opens his Miller Park career with a triple.

And Gwynn Jr. opens his Miller Park career with a double. Had to throw that in there, as Gwynn received a very nice ovation from the crowd. Of course almost everyone was talking to their signicant others and/or children about how he was the of the son of a soon-to-be Hall of Famer, but he still looked good at the plate and in the field (another reason why not to make a strong judgement based on one appearance).

Doug Davis is pitching just like he was last year, which is a good sign.

Carlos Lee is huge.

J.J. Hardy is smooth.

Dana Eveland was up throwing twice in the Brewers bullpen, once when Jorge de la Rosa was in (in the 7th I believe), and he was called up at the end of the game when Turnbow was struggling. You can tell Yost was playing this game to win, bringing in the righty Davis followed by Turnbow to face a right-handed lineup in the late-innings (not to mention the squeeze bunt by Cirillo, another example of how much this game meant to Yost).

I was impressed with Rottino's baseball body. He actually looked just like Aaron Rowand of the ChiSox.

Tommy Phelps has good stuff, especially for a lefty. I think it was a good move to bring him in the 5th, as Davis was laboring a little, and bringing in a lefty that brought heat to a lineup that was used to watching a control southpaw had to be tough to adjust to in limited action.

Jorge dialed his fastball up to 97 at one point. He looked to be throwing a pretty good curve as well. The only thing holding him back is command (not so much control, he needs confidence out there). Of course I say "only" like that is easy to overcome.

My wife thinks Russell Branyan is cute, or hot, or whatever she said. I suppose that puts in her the 3TO crowd http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

I was funny to see all of the White Sox fans with "Cubs Suck" t-shirts on. It's like they were reaching out to the Brewers fans after years of animosity when we were in the AL.

Good game, but I was disappointed Eveland didn't make it in. I hope he finds his way into tomorrow's game. He better.

For whatever reason, Gwynn has been mentioned in the same breath as Weeks and Fielder for his 1.5 years with the team. I'm sure many folks think he's a top prospect, rather than a speedster who projects as a reserve. I would guess that was the reason for the "large" ovation.

Why would the Brewers waste a 2nd round draft pick and a million bucks on a guy who projects as a reserve?

Was Eveland wearing number 50?

Was wondering who that was... Didn't look anything like what I expected from a guy who was getting David Wells comparisons.

Hardy really impressed me out there. Had a triple in his first at bat, and was robbed of atleast a single by the CF later on. The runs started rolling in for the Sox right about the time Hall came in, and from our seats, it looked like a few balls got by him.

Just because some poster here has "his" scouting report doesnt mean when Jack Z made the call, "he" thought Tony would only project to be a reserve.

To give up on tony already is just foolish. He already plays very good defense, and if he can be a good contact hitter type, he could be an everyday CF in the future. If Scott Podsednik can play everyday the past three years, I think there is hope for Tony.

Tony just has progressed as quickly as Prince and Rickie. I think it has hurt him being lumped together with those two. He was definitely not ready for AA last year, probably could have used a year at A+. I don't think it's time to give up on him yet, but I do think he projects to be a 4th outfielder at the pro level
