04/06/05 - Brewers (Davis) @ Pirates (Wells), 11:35 AM CT

squarepusher

Doug Davis takes the mound and tries to keep the Brewers in 1st place in the NL Central. He has a 3.48 lifetime ERA vs. the Pirates and a 4.50 ERA at PNC in 16 innings. Kip Wells has fared pretty well against the Brewers over the last 3 years, with a 3.56 ERA, and has been even better at PNC, sporting a 3.35 ERA. Wells has been around for a while now, and it's hard to believe he's still only 27.

I live in Madison, anyone know if the game is

going to be on 1310 or 1070??

Real upset that my free preview of MLB

Extra Innings doesn't cover this game -

very hard to wait until opening day and then

have to wait another three days to see them

on tv again - oh well. Go Brewers - Make it 2-0

In honor of Doug Davis' offensive capabilities, I think we should start a thread to pick the date of Davis' first hit this season.

Better yet, what is everybody's pick for the first pitcher to get a hit this year? I'm going to go with Capuano on Friday.

Come on Ralph, you're really going out on a limb there picking Cappy to be the first pitcher to get a hit. I will predict Sheeter as the first pitcher to get a base knock in his next start. I will also predict that we hear about that hit for quite a while on the pregame shows through Jimmy P!

Well, I don't want to make any outlandish predictions. Also, I promise not to rub anyone's nose in it if I'm right. I'll just pat myself on the back a couple times, crack a much-deserved Miller, and move on.

Sheets has my vote too.

How can you go against a guy who looks so

good at the bat all the time http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Also when he is so confident in his interview

on Sat that he's going to win the pitchers

award for hitting, how can you vote against him.

Not that it matters, but day games are generally on ESPN Radio 1070 in Madison and I just looked and today is no exception.

Factoids from today's game notes:

-- Dougie is 1-1 (3.48 ERA) lifetime against the Pirates; 0-1 (4.50 ERA) in three games at PNC Park.

-- Jason Bay is 3-7 lifetime against Dougie; Tike Redman is 5-10; Matt Lawton is 0-5.

-- As a team, the current Pirates are 20-66 (.303) with 4 RBI lifetime against Dougie.

-- Dougie's only hit last season came against...drumroll...Pittsburgh (July 30).

-- Brady Clark is 6-14 with 3 RBI lifetime against Wells (Kip, not David); Lyle Overbay is 5-10 with 2 HR and 3 RBI; King 3TO is 5-19 with 2 HR and 2 RBI; Damian Miller is 1-10 with 1 RBI, as is Bill Hall.

-- As a team, the current Brewers are 31-112 (.277) with 4 HR and 12 RBI against Wells (Kip, not David).

The game today is at 11:35 AM today, so don't wait up until midnight hoping to catch it.

Here I thought Pittsburgh was just finding yet another way to screw the Brewers, this time a game getting over at 2 a.m. on getaway day.

Good... we finally get to see the "A" team. I like the Jenkins-Miller-Branyan thing... the lineup is split up nicely between righties and lefties this way and Miller will get on base more than Branyan.
