"Big strikout there but you have to wonder why a guy like Glover gets the nod over a highly touted prospect like De La Rosa. "

JDLR has some control issues as well...for the time being I think he is a good long-reliever until he stops going so deep in the count...

agreed rwa12. Basically, JDLR needs to continue attacking hitters. He has the kind of stuff where he could have a long career throwing stuff over the plate that guys just can't touch. He needs to forget about nibbling and just attack. The coaches will know when he's ready, likely next year or late in the season. Barring an emergency, I'd rather he stay in the pen all year so as to maximize his success. No need to push him into a role where he might struggle, which could take away from his success as a reliever.

Then again, this is all being said after 3 outings. Nice to have guys like him and Obermueller. With Santos and Glover likely being 5-6 inning pitchers (sometimes 4 innings), we'll need these guys to soak up some innings to keep the others fresh

i highly doubt that Carlos "speedy" Lee chose to run on his own there, granted that was kind of tough luck with where the hit was, but if he isnt sent thats not a DP.

edit: Darron and Bill seem to think Lee did go on his own, my error

Lee tossed out at third. Thought I should mention that while Dbacks minor league coaches generally preach a station-to-station approach (Moneyball-like), they are very aggressive in trying to steal third base. The theory is that if you do it at a moment when the catcher isn't expecting it, not only will you successfully steal at a very high rate, but at least 1/3rd of the time the throw will go into LF allowing the runner to score. Interesting theory. I wish I was still coaching softball to put it into practice and try it out.

Glover seems to have a whole bunch of pitches: 90-93mph fastball that's pretty straight, although sometimes it sinks a bit; changeup that tails a bit away from left-handers; a hard slider that's probably his best pitch... about 80-88mph with some good downward bite; a cutter that looks almost exactly the same; and a bigger, slower curveball that he's thrown a couple times. He can miss bats if he throws strikes, but that's a big "if". His mechanics are a bit awkward but he actually looks pretty good.
