04/12/05 - Pirates (Redman) @ Brewers (Glover), 6:35 PM CT

squarepusher

Your first place Milwaukee Brewers play the first game without the aid of the day-star, as Gary Glover takes the hill for the Crew. Glover has been lights out as a Milwaukee Brewer both in 2004 and in Spring Training this year. Gary has a 7.20 lifetime ERA in a limited 5 innings against the Bucs (1 start). Mark Redman is coming off an excellent first start, where he allowd no runs and only 4 hits in 6 innings. Mark has owned Milwaukee, posting a 1.08 ERA against the Crew over the past two years in 25 innings.

Boys had a Players Only meeting yesterday after losing once again to the Crew. Watch out for the Back-Lash. Redman held San Diego Scoreless in his first start. He's in his groove. Are the Brewers going to be looking past the Bucs or will they remain focused? With this mound Match-Up, I'm looking for a low score, maybe extra innings. Ya right, I'd like to be that close in the ninth.

I'm rooting for Cirillo at 3rd and Branyan in RF. Hard to sit a guy the day after he hits two dingers. Jenks could use a break, his DP yesterday was well hit and a bit of time could be useful.

Think Yost will pull the trigger? (I don't)

Well, you're half right. I think Cirillo gets the start, but Russell will be the most powerful pinch hitter in baseball today.

Gotta say I'm worried. Redman owned the Crew when with the Marlins. He could get shelled and walk everyone, then face the Crew in his next start and dominate.

I am intrigued by Glover. Friday he was throwing 92-93 with a nasty slurve/slider/cutter.

Predictions, huh?

Jenkins 2-2, 2B, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 SF, 4 RBI

JJ Hardy 2-3, 2B, BB, 3 Runs

Jenkins will do his work from the leadoff spot, of course. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hey maybe we will put Helms at 1B as well and give Overbay, Branyan and Jenkins the day off!!! Nah..

I actually look for Branyan to play today. Redman lives on off-speed stuff and Branyan hits that pretty good. So I say go with Branyan and sit Jenkins...but that won't happen.

Lineup prediction:

Clark, cf

Spivey, 2b

Cirillo, 3b

Lee, lf

Jenkins, rf

Miller, c

Helms, 1b

Hardy, ss

[pitcher]

Overbay gets the day off against the lefty, and Helms gets his first start of the year. (Of the position players, Helms & Magruder are the only ones who haven't started a game yet....and I'm guessing Magruder plays a corner OF spot - probably right - on Wednesday.)

what is the earlyest they will let us in today to tail gate?

I believe officialy it's 2 hours prior, but that doesn't mean it won't be earlier...

I wouldn't have a huge problem with Helms at 1b, but it's not like we've played 6 games in 6 days or anything.

Keep in mind that Helms starting today was a prediction, not an actual fact. In reading an article on the Brewers Web site about Helms, it started the following,

"When the Pirates send left-hander Mark Redman to the mound for Game 2 of the series on Tuesday night, Yost will counter with Cirillo, not Helms."

Maybe Yost will decide to put in Helms today for Overbay, but it didn't sound like it from the article that was written, but maybe after the boo's yesterday, Yost will go with his heart again and put in Helms. We'll find out soon.

Looking at Redman he is pretty much the same pitcher against RHB and LHB....so it really doesn't matter much from his perspective. I still believe Branyan is the way to go at 3b, but I would give Overbay the day off. Overbay is 0-3 lifetime against Redman with 2 k's. Jenkins is 2 for 11 lifetime with 5 k's..so it might make sense not to play him.

Man I wasn't going crazy on the Overbay thing but he hasn't had any success against Redman and I thought it might be possible to get Helms a start at first. Helms only has 3 AB against Redman with one hit and no k's. I understand Overbay will most likely(99%) be in the lineup...I was just pointing out that I would sit him out before Branyan. I like Branyan against a soft-tossing lefty. Relax.
