4/20/05 - Brewers (TBA) @ Astros (Oswalt) 7:05CT

Moeller is a complete idiot. He calls for two straight high fastballs when even Schroeder knows Ben has trouble throwing that pitch. How about you bust him low and inside or even a changeup...but low so we can get a groundball or a k. Then Yost keeps him in when he is hacking up loogies and throwing knuckleballs to first.

Why the HELL is Jeff Cirillo starting? This is just asinine

well, didn't think I'd see you in the Helms crowd, but Jeff has been pretty aweful. Has he just seen three pitches tonight?

Tonight we find out that Branyan should start about 90% of the time, once he's healthy. Jeff is a PH, that's it. After opening day, I had to say I thought maybe we'd see a Jeff that was healthy for the first time in a few years. Maybe it isn't health, maybe he's just that bad now.

As for Clark, as the article online notes he's now 2-3 on steal attempts this year.

and Jenkins doing his best Magruder impersonation out there tonight

Holy crap do these guys suck.

This team is seriously close to letting this season slip right down the drain if they keep playing like this. We don't have any games against Pittsburgh or Colorado coming up in the near future to bail us out.

All of the positives of the new owner, new season, new attitude, new players are headed right down the toilet because we look as bad as I can remember right now.

And yes I know its early, small sample and all that crap. But if things don't get better soon we're gonna be 15 games under .500 by mid-May. And who knows when this losing streak will end, it won't tomorrow thats for sure.

yeah, today he's not quite getting that pitch up enough. Normally it's his bread and butter

I'll tell you what else is grinding my gears.

1. For a "top-notch" defensive outfielder, Jenkins sure makes a lot of ridiculous plays in the field. Bobbles, overthrow the cutoff, etc.

2. Moeller may call a good game, but he sure can't do anything else.

3. The only thing this team has done consistently this year is make defensive mistakes.

Argh! I don't know if I have ever been this irritated with the Brewers. Everyone seems to be completely agitated, and though most people know it is a "small sample", nothing that has come out of the first couple weeks is remotely encouraging. I won't give up on the squad's chances of reaching .500 on the season until much later in the season. But, I don't think anyone can convince me the outlook is any brighter than bleak.

As I finish typing my mini-rant about defense, Matt Wise actually gets the "fake to third, throw to first" play to work, and Hall and Spivey are daydreaming in the field and don't go to 2nd. COME ON! Not hitting is one thing, but the errors in the field smack of a lack of concentration.

Edit: to correct quotation marks

deeswan, his range is so bad that I think Jenks is one of the most overrated OF's in the game. Doesn't get to many balls. It's been telling this last week. We've seen the Card's athletic OF running all over the place, and we have three players with below avg range for their positions manning our OF. Clark has range for a corner outfielder, not for a CF. And Jenkins and Lee are just trucks out there

I am not one to make quick judgements, but you can put me in the fire Yost coulum. This team plays like crap. It isn't his fault they can't hit very well, but he is all talk and no action. He went on and on this spring about how its time to produce and playing hard isn't enough. Apparently the players took that to mean they don't have to play hard at all (or at least play smart). Their defense is awful, they run themselves out of innings while teams run wild on them, he clearly left Sheets in about 3-4 hitters too long tonight, he actually chooses to put Phelps into games, Sheets has 3 errors already, jenkins bobbled two consecutive balls in right. This team looks worse than last year. Not only are they losing, but they look just terrible doing it.

People usually lose interest in the Brewers around here when Packer's training camp starts. It looks like this year they will accomplish that feat by draft day.

While theoretically I think Chad Moeller is a fine backup Catcher, I have to say I was mighty impressed with Mosquera this spring. The guy probably runs as fast as any of our big league outfielders. Still, I just don't know what moves we can make right now.

Supposedly Hardy is already ticked off because he's getting pulled wily nily.

Where did you hear this? Just curious, because I find it hard to believe that a rookie who is hitting .121 is upset because his manager is sitting him down occasionally.

Nobody got tossed, and it was Spivey's laziness that caused that argument. Just run it out man.

I seriously hope that Spivey arguing that call is the lowpoint of the season because I pray it can't get worse then that.
