No scoop, if Cirillo is placed at 2nd, he won't get struck by lightening and turned into a pile of goo. But only you and possibly Clancy could possibly think its a good idea to play him there except when two middle infielders are injured..

So in a situation where a double switch is obviously in order, Cirillo should not even be considered at 2b? I totally disagree. Today we saw Yost burn a reliever, perhaps the hottest in the pen, to face ONE hitter. That hitter was the opposing pitcher. Name another time you remember seeing THAT manuver. We know that Miller was available and could have been double switched with Moeller. Spivey could have been pulled for Cirillo. Jeff is a major league third baseman and a solid defensive player. He could have managed 2nd base for 3 freaking innings rather than burning Wise to face fricken Brett Tomko. That was a bush league move and blaming it on the idea that Cirillo is somehow incapable of playing 2nd for 3 innings is just plain foolish.

I am not advocating benching Spivey and inserting Cirillo full time. I am saying he can play there if a situation arises. It arose.

well then Ned should have let Alou make a move and react to it.

That has nothing to do with the fact that you declared Cirillo CANT play 2b. I think that is an awfully strange thing to say especially in that situation.

Who would be a better choice to play 2b then if Spivey goes down for a game? Bill Hall? So a bad defensive ss is better than a good defensive 3b when deciding who an emergency 2b is? So we are only carrying ONE person on the roster who can play 2b? Wow.

fine....then double switch with bill hall. I just think it made sense to double switch in that situation. I still think that Cirillo is perfectly capable of filling in on an emergency basis. Its not like I am expecting Helms or Branyan to play 2b. I wouldn't expect them to. JC is more of a utility type defender and could fairly easily adapt to a few innings at 2b.
