Arizona Box Score:

Let's hear it for the two 17-year-olds who combined to go for 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB's and 5 K's, RHP Adrian Rosario and LHP Efrain Nieves (Nieves was the Brewers' 2007 7th round pick); Jack Z. had good things to say about SS Miguel Vasquez, who is now 7-for-13 with three walks; three triples for the A-Crew Kids -- Hereaud, Trejo, and Paciorek; want to bet catcher Matt Whiteside's Spanish has improved after another few months in Maryvale?

Gamel and Salome continue mashing...

Gillespie with an 0 for so far, but with 2 walks. His secondary numbers are very good, too bad he just isn't getting hits.

Edit. I've been following the DFEs pretty closely.

Helena Roster:

Haydel has been... not so good at the plate, not in the lineup tonight, but he plays a mean center field, he's made some very nice plays already.

Bryson has been very good thus far in 2 appearances, 4.2IP 0.00 ERA 3H 0BB 7SO.

Tyson has been good in 3 appearances, he gave up 2 runs in 3.0 on a HR the other day so his line is 5IP 2R 3H 1BB 2SO.

Robinson hasn't made an appearance yet, he's active and not on the DL, but I haven't caught any information on him from the hand full of broadcasts I've been able to catch as to why he's not pitching.

Arizona:

Crosby has only played twice and is batting .167 through 6 ABs, but the sample is so small it doesn't mean anything to me at this point. I was hoping he'd be in Helena so there would at least be some audio type observations of the young man.

Yep I saw that, and I also saw he had 2 more SOs, and is one of 2 players without a hit tonight... but that's an avalanche of runs, and Brewer is still my boy.

Mercedes with a with a nice line thus far tonight, hopefully more will follow.

edit. Looking at Salome's final line after tonight's game, I'm jumping on the promote Salome bandwagon, and I'm also for bumping Lou to AAA.

edit2. Gindl with a drag bunt basehit, this kid can do it all at this level. He's going to be fun to watch.

edit3. I may have jinxed Mercedes, sorry.

Similar to the "Is Will Inman OK?" thread from recently, is Robert Hinton OK? I don't think we have one of his relatives on the board to get insights like with Will, but wow, he's given up multiple ER in 7 of his last 10 appearances after tonight's painful collapse.

Brewers' two-out rallies doom Osprey

By BOB MESEROLL Missoulian sports editor

The suspense was palpable.

The tension built through seven-plus innings Friday night at Ogren-Allegiance Park.

A T-shirt night crowd of 2,379 held its breath.

Then it happened. The public address announcer read the winning 50-50 ticket number, sending many of those same fans heading for the exits.

The Helena Brewers removed most of the doubt about who would win the game with a five-run fourth inning en route to a 10-2 win over the Missoula Osprey.

The loss dropped the Osprey to 5-6 in the Pioneer League's North Division. Helena, which has won five of eight against the Osprey, also stands at 5-6.

Osprey starter Tom Layne (1-1), a 6-foot-3, 185-pound southpaw out of Mount Olive (N.C.) College, surrendered his first runs of the season after working eight scoreless innings over his first two starts.

The Brewers touched Layne for a single run in the third on a two-out single by Zealous Wheeler.

That just foreshadowed the fourth when the Brewers sent 10 men to the plate and scored all five runs after two were out.

?He went away from the gameplan, flat out,? a visibly perturbed Missoula manager Damon Mashore said, while declining to reveal the gameplan. ?He gave up a lot of one-handed hits today, not much hard contact.?

The hardest hit balls of the inning were a triple by shortstop Matt Cline that bounced off the base of the center-field wall, and a line drive by right fielder Caleb Gindl that Missoula center fielder Pete Clifford played into an inside-the-park home run. Clifford dove for the sinking liner, which was well out of his reach. By the time the Osprey tracked down the ball, Gindl was well on his way home.

Gindl, a fifth-round draft choice out of Pace High School in Florida, has been a thorn in the side of the Osprey so far this season. After a 3-for-5 night Friday, Gindl is 16-for-32 with 10 RBIs in eight games against the Osprey.

?He's a good hitter,? Mashore said. ?He's a high pick for a reason.?

Layne lasted just 3 2-3 innings, giving up six runs - five earned - on 10 hits and a walk.

Helena starter Roque Mercedes (1-1), meanwhile, kept the Osprey bats quiet, using a fastball that topped out in the low 90s mixed with an effective off-speed pitch. Mercedes shut out the O's on three hits through six innings, walking one while striking out three. He retired 11 straight Missoula batters from the second into the sixth inning.

?He changed speeds and located, like he did last time,? Mashore said, referring to opening night when Mercedes held the O's to three runs over six innings.

One bright spot for the Osprey was the 3-for-4 performance of right fielder Anthony Smith, who was sent to Missoula from Yakima on Friday. He took the roster spot of Connor Janes, who was released. Smith, a 21st-round draft pick this year out of St. John's, was 0-for-11 for Yakima. Smith had a single and two doubles, scoring the Osprey's final run in the ninth on a fielder's choice by Clifford.

Missoula's other run came in the eighth when Clifford led off with a triple and scored on a sharp ground single up the right-field line by Sean Coughlin.

The two teams wrap up their three-game series Saturday at 7:15 PM (8:15 Central). It will be the ninth meeting between the two teams, who won't meet again until July 30 in Helena.

Helena Box Score:

Four singles for Zelous Wheeler -- we're going to go with the new spelling on his first name, based on most of the info that we have, no "a"; fine line for Roque Mercedes, but at this level, it should be...

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER OFFENSE ERUPTS IN GREENVILLE

The Greenville Drive had won their last eight games at West End Field until the West Virginia Power rolled into town and scored 19 runs on 19 hits to snap Greenville?s eight game home winning streak with a 19-6 victory on Friday night.

The problems for the Drive started in the first inning where West Virginia scored five times. The inning was highlighted by RBI singles from Taylor Green and Andrew Lefave and Kenny Holmberg?s two-run homer, his ninth of the season. Charlie Fermaint scored on a wild pitch in the second inning to give West Virginia a 6-0 edge. The Drive cut that lead in half with a three-run fourth inning, but West Virginia answered a half inning later with three runs in the fifth. Holmberg singled in a run and Andy Bouchie doubled in two.

A wild pitch plated Matt Sheely for Greenville in the sixth inning. Sheely reached on a fielder?s choice to plate a run in the seventh inning and Reid Engel knocked in Greenville?s last run on an RBI single in the eighth.

Chuckie Caufield hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, his third of the year. The Power batted around in the eighth inning, scoring five times on four hits. The Power surge wasn?t complete until they scored four more times on four hits in the top of the ninth inning, highlighted by Brad Miller?s solo home run, his first of the year.

Mike Ramlow (4-2) had a no hitter through three and a third and managed the win after surrendering three runs on five hits through five innings while Felix Doubront (2-5) was tagged with the loss.

The Power improved to 53-24 overall and 5-4 in the second half, while the Drive fell to 35-43 overall and 6-3 in the second half with the loss. Seven Power players recorded multi-hit games. Holmberg, Caufield, Lefave and Green paced the Power with three hits each. Holmberg led the way with five RBI, Caufield knocked in three while he and Lefave both scored four times each.

The Power will continue the four game series against the Drive Saturday night. The Power will start right hander Chris Toneguzzi (0-1, 5.00) and Greenville will start left hander Dustin Richardson (3-5, 3.82). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM (6:05 Central).

Burgamy steers Threshers

Brian Burgamy's two-run triple highlighted a four-run second inning as visiting Clearwater topped Brevard County, 6-3, on Friday.

Jay Miller and Hector Made stroked RBI singles before Burgamy smacked his first triple of the season to put the Threshers ahead, 4-1.

Shaun Boyd ripped a two-run base hit in the fourth for Clearwater (6-3), but Clay Harris went 0-for-4 to snap his 16-game hitting streak.

Brevard County's Mat Gamel went 2-for-4 to extend his Florida State League season-high hitting streak to 27 games. Chris Errecart hit an RBI single in the first and Angel Salome added a run-scoring base hit in the fifth and an RBI double in the ninth for the Manatees (4-5).

Threshers starter Joshua Outman (8-3) gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings for his second straight win. Zac Stott allowed a run on four hits and a walk with a strikeout in four frames for his first save.

Manatees starter Josh Baker (0-2) surrendered four runs on three hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. -- Marissa Rega/MLB.com

Angel Salome must be such a joy to watch live; Darren Ford two walks, on base three times; it's so tough for the guys coming back from long rehab stints to excel right away, as evidenced by Josh Baker here; Kevin Roberts retires all nine men he faces...

Final: Chattanooga (Reds) 9, Huntsville 8, ten innings

Huntsville Site Game Summary:

Lookouts Win Long Game on Long Night

Luis Bolivar singled home the game-winning run in the tenth inning to lift Chattanooga to a bizarre 9-8 victory over Huntsville Friday night in the final game of a six-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Lookouts won four out of six to improve to 9-3 in the second half, while the Stars dropped to 4-8 after a second straight four games to two series loss to begin the second half.

Tyrell Godwin led off the tenth with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on an errant throw from catcher Carlos Corporan, who was in his first inning behind the plate. Luis Pena struck out Craig Tatum and pinch-hitter Marland Williams before Bolivar stroked a single into right field to deliver Godwin with the decisive run. Carlos Guevara came on in the bottom of the inning and retired the side in order to earn his tenth save of the season.

Ruben Mateo?s two-run home run and Brendan Katin?s run-scoring single gave the Stars a 3-0 edge in the first inning and Steve Moss?s leadoff long ball in the fourth extended the home team?s cushion to 4-0. Huntsville starter Mark DiFelice spun six shutout innings in his second start to extend his consecutive innings scoreless streak to a franchise-record 29 2/3.

The game had been played in a steady, sometimes intense, rain, lightning and thunder from the bottom of the second until it was halted with two outs, a runner at third and a 2-0 count on Brendan Katin in the home seventh. Tyler Pelland retired Katin to end the inning when play resumed before the Lookouts tallied eight times against David Johnson and Robert Hinton in the eighth inning to take the lead. The outburst, the biggest scoring inning against the Stars this season, was highlighted by a two-run double by Jay Bruce and a two-run double by Bolivar.

The Stars tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded, bases clearing double by Lou Palmisano and a fielding error on third baseman Enrique Cruz on a Katin grounder that allowed pinch-runner Mel Stocker to cross the plate. Palmisano had his second three-hit game of the season and extended his hitting to a season-best eight games in a row.

The Stars begin a four-game series at West Tenn Saturday night with right-hander Will Inman taking the hill against Diamond Jaxx? right-hander Andy Baldwin. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Box Score:

That is one of the most amazing (and frustrating) game summaries we've ever posted; Robert Hinton's troubles are as profound as much as veteran Mark DiFelice's excellence is...

Sounds Sweep Away Isotopes With 10-2 Rout

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? First baseman Brad Nelson belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs to lead Nashville to a 10-2 rout of Albuquerque on Friday evening at Isotopes Park as the Sounds completed a sweep of the three-game series.

With the victory, the Sounds (48-33) extended their lead to 2 ½ games over Iowa in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Nashville finished a successful road trip with a 5-2 record.

Left-hander Zach Jackson (9-3) picked up his Pacific Coast League-leading ninth victory by limiting the Isotopes to one run on five hits over seven strong innings. The win was the southpaw?s fourth in his last six starts, all of which have been Nashville triumphs.

The Sounds continued to crush Albuquerque pitching, belting a season-high four home runs and ripping eight of their 14 hits for extra bases. In the series, Nashville posted 23 extra-base hits among its 43 knocks against the Isotopes.

Nine of the Sounds? 10 runs in the contest came home with two outs in an inning.

Nashville posted back-to-back double-digit scoring totals in the final two games of the series, a feat they accomplished for only the second time this season (also April 14-15 at New Orleans).

Chris Barnwell put the Sounds on the board in the top of the second inning with a two-out, two-run homer off Isotopes starter Seth Etherton. The longball was the infielder?s fifth of the year.

After Scott Seabol halved the Nashville lead with a leadoff home run against Jackson in the bottom of the frame, his third roundtripper in three games and 18th of the year, the Sounds pulled comfortably ahead with a five-run third against Etherton.

Nelson highlighted the big inning with a two-out grand slam off Etherton that came on the first pitch he saw from the right-hander.

Drew Anderson followed the blast with a double to extend his season-best hitting streak to nine games before scoring the frame?s fifth run on Barnwell?s subsequent RBI single to make it a 7-1 contest.

The Sounds added a pair of runs in the fourth when Joe Dillon belted a mammoth two-out, two-run homer to left field off Albuquerque reliever Jesus Silva, who was making his first Triple-A appearance of the season. Dillon?s four-bagger, his team-leading 15th of the year, extended the veteran?s hitting streak to a season-high nine games.

Nelson struck again for Nashville in the fifth, leading off the frame with his second homer of the evening to push the visitors? advantage to 10-1. The longball, which came against Silva, was the slugger?s 11th of the year.

Albuquerque leftfielder John Gall (3-for-4) contributed the Isotopes? second run when he belted a two-out solo homer to left off Sounds reliever Dennis Sarfate, his seventh roundtripper of the year.

Etherton (0-2) remained winless on the year as he absorbed the loss after giving up eight runs (three earned) on seven hits over only 3 1/3 innings of work.

The Sounds travel home to Music City on Saturday to open a four-game homestand against the Round Rock Express (AAA-Astros). Nashville leads the season series between the clubs, 5-3.

Left-hander Manny Parra (1-1, 1.20), who tossed the second perfect game in Sounds history in his last outing, will start Saturday?s 6 p.m. series opener for Nashville. Round Rock will counter with right-hander Chance Douglass (0-1, 7.71).

It will be Faith Night at Greer Stadium featuring a pre-game concert by Jessie Daniels. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the turnstiles will receive a Nashville Sounds baseball card set, courtesy of H.G. Hill. All fans are invited to stay after the game for a spectacular fireworks display presented by Your Select Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealers.
