The Brewers white-hot offense tries to carry the Crew to a 9th straight win tonight.

 

Wayne Franklin carried a no-hitter into the later innings of the game his last time out, and picked up a win over Pittsburgh his last time out. Franklin has had 3 quality starts in a row, and hopes to make it 4 tonight against a tattered and slumping Reds offense.

 

Seth Etherton makes his 3rd start of the year, and is currently 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA. He had a decent start his last time out at Houston, giving up 2 ER in 6 IP. Etherton last saw regular duty as a member of the Angels rotation in 2000. He went 5-1 with a 5.52 ERA in 11 starts. Seth was 7-7 with a 4.31 ERA this year through 21 starts in AAA Louisville.

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers try to extend

their longest winning streak in six years when they continue a

four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American

Ball Park on Wednesday.

 

The Brewers have won eight in a row, their longest streak since

winning nine in a row from July 25-August 1, 1997, with a 7-1

triumph on Tuesday.

 

Doug Davis tossed a four-hitter and Geoff Jenkins and Wes Helms

each hit a two-run homer for Milwaukee. Jenkins and Helms both

have homered in each of the first two games of the series.

 

Brewers lefthander Wayne Franklin (9-10, 5.22 ERA) is 2-2 with a

5.64 ERA in four games against the Reds this season, going 1-1

with a 7.20 ERA in two contests here. In his career, he is 2-2

with a 5.32 ERA in seven games against them.

 

Franklin beat Pittsburgh at home on Friday, 3-2, after taking a

no-hitter into the seventh inning. He yielded two hits in seven

innings.

 

Reds righthander Seth Etherton (1-1, 5.73) earned his first

major league victory since July 20, 2000 on Friday with a 4-3

triumph at Houston. He allowed two runs and five hits in five

innings after surrendering five runs and six hits in five

innings vs. the Astros on August 16.

 

Etherton will make his first career appearance against

Milwaukee. The only player on the Brewers he has faced is Royce

Clayton, who went 1-for-4 with a walk.

This is just flat out insane. 9 in a row. Y'know, I don't like several things about the way Nedly manages the team, but, one thing he can't possibly be criticized for is his ability to keep the guys going. The enthusiasm is great, and hey, it gives us brewers fans a chance to be excited at the tail end of August, even in a lost season.

Lol if we had this team at the outset of the year we would have contended for the division without a doubt. Kolb as closer=prolly 9 less blown saves dejean blew 11

Podsednik as leadoff man........equals free flowing offense Davis as a 4th or 5th starter more wins less losses replacing rusch and or quevedo, Iam not saying we would win or be veryy close but we'd be 500 or better no doubt
