8/24/03 - Pirates (Meadows) @ Brewers (Sheets)

MassBrew
What an outstanding series. I wonder after Pods domination this weekend, if Al will finally admit he's legit? Who'd a thought Royce Clayton would come through in the clutch 2 days in a row? A pitcher with the same stats as Ben Sheets but a different name would be considered average. A 4.28 ERA in the NL just isn't that exciting. The Crew is suffering some serious ripple effect in there bullpen. I'd like to see Matt Childers enter the mix. He reminds me of a young Mike Timlin, a big hardthrowing groundball pitcher. Doesn't strike many out because of a very average breaking pitch, simply relies on a low to mid 90s 2 seamer that has lots of cut and sink. Matt was good at AA , and has been outstanding at AAA.

valerio pitched a strong Ing yesterday and failed horrible

today. Leo has had back to back bad outings.

the brewers might be wise to bring up a reliever from 3a especially with a busy week ahead.

It looks like right now we have 2 long Relievers in Rusch and Burba.

Well Leo's numbers after May have been not very good, and other than throwing a lot of ground balls he doesn't really profile as a good bullpen guy long term. It's quite possible that we just got the best two months of his career.

Yes 6 in a row does feel pretty sweet, I wonder if there's an early candidate for player of the week already http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Now that DeJean has been traded, Yost needs to be a little more creative in using his depleted pen. Rusch retires 4 guys on 11 pitches seemingly effortlessly and he gets pulled for De Los Santos who has been anything but reliable all year. Why not let Glendon go at least the 8th and if he cruises, let him finish. There's no law that says a guy can't get a 3 inning save.
