CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers try to win a 10th

straight game for the first time in over 14 years as they

conclude a four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds on

Thursday.

 

The Brewers have won nine in a row for July 25-August 1, 1997

and already have eclipsed their win total from last season.

They have not won 10 straight since April 30-May 9, 1988.

 

Geoff Jenkins had two hits, including a solo homer, and rookie

Scott Podsednik had two hits for the Brewers on Wednesday.

Podsednik is hitting .470 (23-for-49) during a career-high

12-game hitting streak.

 

Wes Obermuller (0-4, 5.34 ERA) makes his sixth start of the

season for the Brewers and seeks his first career victory. He

has pitched twice during Milwaukee's winning streak and has

allowed three runs and 14 hits in 10 1/3 innings.

 

In his last start, the 26-year-old righthander allowed one run

and eight hits in six innings of Saturday's 7-6 win over

Pittsburgh.

 

Paul Wilson (8-10, 4.74) makes his team-leading 27th start of

the season for the Reds and will try to win three straight

decisions for the second time this year.

 

He is coming off back-to-back wins over the Houston Astros and

allowed one run and five hits in seven innings of Saturday's 3-1

win.

 

Wilson is 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA in two lifetime starts vs. the

Brewers.

Wow . . . we're as good a road team as Houston and St. Louis. You think maybe we need to tailor the team a bit better to Miller Park?

 

Actually, everybody in the division is equally mediocre on the road, except the Cubs. Is this interesting in any way, or is it just a random feature of a weak division?

Exactly... And you'll see this occurring over the next few years. The plan is to grow the infield grass long and load up on sinkerball pitchers and other pitchers with good GB/FB ratios. Obviously you can only change so much in one year, so some of the changes should percolate up thru the minors as well as FA talent.

Well the good news is I think we will be hearing a lot of "this is the first time the Brewers have done this in 10 years (or More)." We are just now starting to get some national attention. I only hope this will last just a little longer. I couuld get used to this thing they call winning.
