07/05 - Rockies (Oliver) @ Brewers (Ford)

I guess people are either busy with the fourth or tired of the Brewers at this point.

This is Matt Ford...start #2

4.7 IP, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts, 82 pitches

I think the most exciting thing is 82 pitches...and it was hardly Rusch like. Ford got a LONG way to go, but this outing showed he can go over half the game (and more in the future) and while I didn't watch it, by the boxscore he didnt embarass himself. Colorado has a fairly solid offense (home or away) so Im not focusing too much on the earned runs. It was good for the kid to get "roughed" up a bit, break any ego he had down and let him go back out there next time and focus.

Any insight on the game other than the boxscores...its not over yet, Milwaukee still has a chance to pull this one out.

I'm not going to rag on Matt Ford here, i mean, my gosh, even with tonight's outing, he still has a 3.16 ERA. However, was I the only person who saw this type of thing coming? I watched the game he pitched against the Twins, and he barely got out of a jam in the first and was very fortunate to have an ump with a nearly bottomless strike zone. Ford will be a good pitcher down the road, no doubt. But, he doesn't have the stuff right now to beat major league hitters consistently. I'd leave him in the rotation until something else can be figurered out, but I don't think tossing him to the wolves every 5 days for the rest of the season is the best thing to do, either. Finding another starter might be a problem, especially with Burba not looking too hot himself, but as much as I wanted to see Matt start a few games, I don't know that starting more than a handful of games is what is best for him long-term.

...another good crowd, another loss. Grand slam was exciting.

I know this has been discussed several times, but I have to say it again. Even though this team is only a slight improvement over last year's squad record-wise, there have been far fewer games this year that haven't at least provided a few exciting moments. There hasn't been a single game this year that I've become too frustrated with and turned off halfway through, because I've almost ALWAYS thought they had a shot of pulling it off, I couldn't say that last year.

I agree that it is only a matter of time, before Matt Ford comes back down to Earth...I too was at the game last night and almost all of the hits he gave up were hit pretty hard. Larry Walker was the only who looked bad last night...Colorado's lineup is stacked (if not, inflated), it seems that 7 guys in their lineup have batting averages near or above .300.

Wes Helms, while lacking some plate discipline (swinging at some questionable pitches) has been stinging the ball nicely. It'll be interesting to see Helms next year with one full season at 3B under his belt.

All in all a very exciting game last night...we should have really hit Darren Oliver harder then we did though...EY's GIDP early on proved to be costly, some good range displayed by the Rockies on defense took away a number of potential hits away from the Brewers...

mothership...

if you have any quesiton as to why the team is staying in games and you still have faith in a game this far into the season...I think the answer lies in one person

Ned Yost

Probably the newcomer of the year as far as managers goes...and with this bunch of players, I couldn't ask for too much more from the guy. Hes a winner with the right attitude...Milwaukee with Yost will be an exciting development in the making.
