6/24/03 Cubs(Wood) vs Brewers(Q)

Say what you will about Sosa, (it's true, most likely) but that HR was absolutely monstrous. I don't really blame Viz for going at him down 4 with no one on base, but lordy, go after him, don't throw it thigh high down the middle at 89 mph.

Three long balls in two innings, including the longest home run I've ever seen by Sosa and one by the pitcher? Beautiful.

Good bye, Luis. You'll look real pretty in an Indianapolis jersey.

Definitely the ugliest game I have seen in a long time.

1. Terrible starting pitching by Glendon Quevedo

2. Terrrible base running

3. Terrible clutch hitting

4. Terrible outing by Vizcaino

5. Sosa hits one to the moon

6. Even frickin' Kerry Wood goes deep.

I guess we can be happy that Matt Ford and Wes Helms are having decent nights. But that's really about it.

One of those days I guess.

Well, it just got uglier . . Yost and Perez just got ejected.

Maybe its just me,but is anything more lame in baseball than managers arguing forever till they get ejected??Then even worse when some old fat manager goes out there and kicks dirt over the plate, they look like a moron in my opinion.

Get off the damn field and sit your ass back in the dugout,be useful and eat some sunflower seeds.

Vizcaino does not have any options left does he? Thats how we got him from Texas I thought.

Yeah, we got him after he bounced from Oak to Tex , then to us all within a week, someone previously said that Oakland used up his options from 99-01

Maybe Q should request to have Sammy's bat checked for cork? Nah, it's the pitching.

But Sammy's body is likely still corked, but it's unlikely his juiced-up arms will split open so we can see. Add the fact that Ruby's belly is corked, and well...520 ft.

I could tell it was bad when we turned on the radio, and Bob is talking about Matt Ford coming in to finish the **1st**.

Of course, Luis' dingerfest and the ejections were yet to come. Good god.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I wish I would've watched the CWS...I would have loved to pick out my favorite Rice pitcher. Obviously the Brewers will have their choice of whomever they wish to pick next June.

It sounds like it was a "funny" game in a way though. At some point giving up homer after homer has gotta draw a half cracked smile. Yost and Perez argueing...can't picture it, but Im sure it was quality (and if it wasn't, it should've been)

Quevedo is a confusing prospect/big leaguer. Weight, velocity, mental? Who knows. I never thought hed be a bad end of the roation guy...looks like he is.

If Q is sent down (might happen) similar to Rusch...hopefully the trend doesn't continue. The Crew have something decent in Sheets, Kinney, Franklin. They don't need any more demotions. We'd have a two man rotation by August.

Checking out the box score it looks as if we only grabbed one "free" base but nine hits. Helmsey...3 for 4. Im jost hoping people are pleased after how bad many thought he was going to be. A .257 average isnt pretty, but its 5th on the team of regular starters...ahead of Sexson I might add. OBP probably balances things out though.

If we take anything from this game, Ill lable it as two things (though I didn't watch it)

Yost did a good thing argueing. I dont like argueing, it slows the game down and is useless, but in a "giving up" game he sticks up for his players regardless of the score. Really scored some brownie points there, I really like this guy.

Ford, 3.3 IP, almost 60 pitches, half for strikes (meh), 4 strikeouts on one hit/earned run, two walks. Id take that as a "start" and just let the pen do the rest. Brooks and Foster (two younger arms) did solid work in going 2+ only allowing one run. Ooh, and Kerry Wood is good.

Was a bad game Im sure, but it brings the club down to earth (post sweep in STL but series win in MIN). The club was showing promise and I believe still is.

Ford and Yost...nice game guys

I can see why the coaching staff didn't want to put Ford into the starting role unless necessary. It was obvious at one point that he had a few butterflies.

That being said, once Yost calmed him down and his teamates ran the double play he looked like a veteran out there. You don't want to ruin his confidence, but he deserves to be out there. I think today's game was a big step for Ford, as he faised a difficult team in a hostile setting and still pitched remarkably well.

A second note...in that situation, managers get thrown out on purpose to try to lite a fire under their team. Yost went out with the intention of getting ejected. I guarantee he told the Ump what was wrong, why his team was upset, then dropped the F-bomb and some other stuff and hit the showers. Good for him. Hopefully this team will come out tomorrow ready to play.

Yea that was pretty obvious since he was out there forever,i was waiting for Yost to ask the ump to please throw him out of the game.I was kinda hoping the ump would have just stood there and not ejected him just to make Yost look silly since it's the only thing Yost was trying to do.I wonder how long Yost would have stayed out there if he dropped one F-Bomb after another and the ump just smiled.

What fire exactly gets lit in players when they are getting crushed and a manager yells at an ump or kicks dirt on home plate??Do u honestly think it accomplishes anything except getting the manager some air time??

I dont think the "thrown out" acts accomplish much now a days...but whenever they first started Im sure they were quite effective

If it lite a fire under one guy, I guess it did its job. Maybe letting the younger guys know that Yost is a "players" manager to an extent

If I come back into a locker room after a rough loss, and see my manager sitting there pissed, maybe I don't hang my head as much. If he cares so much, so should I.

Plus, I always like to see managers stick up for their players.

Of course it doesn't always work. I'm reminded of the time Cassel kicked the ball off the scoreboard and got ejected. He was trying to get the team fired up, but it didn't work. They would have been better off with him and his one foul left on the court instead of in the locker room.

What annoys me about the Viz situation is that we could have traded him easy last off season, but didn't think we were getting enough in return. I bet management feels stupid now!

I wish I would have bought a few million shares of Microsoft when it was $0.01 a share.

Hindsight is 20-20, but none of us have a souped up Delorean to make a hop back to this winter and make a trade with Vizcaino. If I did, I wouldn't be posting here, I would be enjoying my billions in the bank.

Let's keep in mind that the principle deal mentioning Viz was for Micheal Barret who has been out hit by just about everyone in major league baseball. Odds are pretty good that if Doug had traded him that's who he would have gotten, so I wouldn't be doing to much spilled milk crying
