6/25 - Cubs(Estes) v. Brewers(Sheets)

AB #2:

- Curveball, Whiff

- Curveball, Whiff

- Curveball, Checked His Swing

- Curveball, Foul Tipped into Dirt

- Curveball, Struck Out Looking

Gotta love Jose K. If curveballs were illegal, he'd lead the league in hitting.

Two things. One, Kieth Osik is not on this team for offense, he can't throw out baserunners, or block balls in the dirt...why is he on the team.

The second thing is will we score against Shawn Estes today?? He is terrible, so is our offense.

HOLY HELL, CLAYTON GETS A HIT!

Why is a run scored on a pass ball earned?

Nevermind, they fixed it.

Clayton's next AB, with 2 on and 2 out in the 6th:

Pitch 1 - Ball

Pitch 2 - Called Strike

Pitch 3 - Ball

Pitch 4 - Ball

Pitch 5 - Called Strike

Pitch 6 - Swinging Strike

Royce Clayton strikes out swinging.

Even though walk is basicaly useless (light hitting sheets coming up) Clayton tries his damnedest to walk. After looking at 2 OK balls to hit (atleast they were strikes) he swings at a 4th ball. I mean really, the guy has batted before the pitcher all year and still only has a .301 OBP.

If I have to be forced to watch a crappy brewer team, can't it atleast be a young crappy team??!!

Great job by the Crew to tie it up in the 7th. Even better was Powell's comment about Sheets getting off the hook went something like this. The Brewers score 4 times in the 7th to get Ben Sheets off the hook, "Ben has never lost to the Cubs and he never will"

Never will?? We can only hope.

What does Ginter have to do to get some playing time? He pinch hits in the #9 spot and hits a home run. Clayton makes the last out of the inning so the #9 spot is due up to start the eighth. Why not keep him in the game and insert the pitcher in for Clayton? Now, we've used our best two pinch hitters (VW and Ginter) and the pitcher's spot is due to leadoff the next inning. That means either Cruz or Kieshnick will hit, probably...

What's up with that?

I don't get putting in Viz in this situation, given what has happened with him this year. Why not Estrella or DeJean? You have 2 guys who haven't given up 900 foot HRs to Sosa this series, but you bring in the guy that has? Again, I don't get it.

Edit: What a great, gutsy move by Yost! Clearly the first part of my post should be ignored.

Am I missing something? Is Leo Estrella injured? He has thrown exactly one inning in the last week. He should have been in to start the 8th, and at the very least, right now. The only thing I can think of is the pitcher would lead off the 10th, and he wouldn't want to burn him, since he is almost out of position players to pull off a double-switch.

Wow. Three good sliders and one wasted waaay outside. That's how you pitch Sammy. High fastballs middle-in is not.

For having 13 pitchers, Yost sure seems to have a hard time handling them. I can't blame him for putting Kolb in but he was forced to use Leskanic for only an inning and De Lo for more than he's good for.

BANG. Kieschnick jerked one out!!!

Yeees!

BANG!!! Jenkins is en fuego... can you say "All Star"? I couldn't before but I'm starting to learn http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Gotta love breaking the Cubbies' hearts... now we just have to have DeJean or Estrella or someone hold down the fort in the bottom of the inning.

I am sorry, but Brooks Kieshnick has been a very valuable player on this team, both throwing some innings plus he his hitting AWESOME as a pinch hitter. I love this guy. His pitching has been nothing special but better than a lot of other relievers in the Bigs. Go BROOKS!!

Yeah Brooks has been darn useful. I'm not sure that we've found the optimal usage pattern for him, but it's like getting Bob Hamelin and Mike Buddie on your roster for the low low cost of 1 spot. He can sop up innings for you here and there and give you serious pop off the bench, a trait that really stands out because we haven't had any other players really hit off the bench this year at all. Maybe Keith will get it going a bit with finally notching a HR.

Jeez, talk about no respect... from the MilwaukeeBrewers.com home page:

Ben Sheets left the game staring down a 5-1 hole, but the Brewers battled back against the Cubs bullpen to tie the game at 5-5 in the seventh. Matt Ginter homered to lead off the four-run rally. You can watch the game on MLB.TV , listen on Gameday Audio, or follow along on Gameday.

Sheesh, you'd think they could at least get his name right.
