The Brewers are still atop the NL Central despite their first loss of the season. Today, rookie Chris Capuano takes on veteran Jeff Suppan in a 12:10 CST start.

ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- Jeff Suppan makes his first start for the

St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday as they try to gain a split of

a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

 

After splitting last season between Pittsburgh and Boston,

Suppan signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Cardinals in

December.

 

The Cardinals avoided their first 0-3 home start in 35 years

with a 9-4 victory Wednesday. Scott Rolen hit a three-run

homer to cap a five-run seventh inning for the Cardinals.

 

Wes Helms had three hits and two RBI for Milwaukee, which failed

in its bid to start 3-0 for the first time since 1995.

Milwaukee - Chris Capuano (2-4, 4.64 ERA); last season vs. St.

Louis (0-1, 6.23).

 

St. Louis - Suppan (10-7, 3.57 ERA); last season vs. Milwaukee

With a win today, the Brewers will win the series and carry a winning record to their home opener. It seems to have been a long time since they've done that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

 

It will be interesting to see how Capuano handles his first major league start with the Brewers. I am optimistic.

I know Clark and Ginter are playing today. Clark will play right in place of Grieve, but who will Ginter replace Spivey or Helms?

Is that how we decide the lineup now? Hit a homer or go 3-4, you ride the pine?

 

That's exactly what Yost did with Bill Hall in August of last year. Hall went 3 for 4 in back to back games, and then rode the pine for the next two games.

I love the fact that the Brewers are working the count and getting on base. I just wish we would drive in more of those runs instead of stranding so many guys on the bases. I feel like we should have a lot more runs in this series.
