06/06/05 Yankees (Johnson) @ Brewers (Davis) 7:05 CST

Today marks the beginning of Interleague plays second round for the season as the Brewers host the hated NY Yankees. Once an A.L. East rival, the Brewers have not faced the Yanks in quite some time. The Brewers are 180-207 all-time against the Yankees, but own a 108-87 edge in Milwaukee. Since the teams last met in 1997, the Yankees have appeared in every postseason and the Brewers in none. Things don't start off to easily for the home team as the Bronx Bombers under Bob Uecker's budy Joe Torre, send Randy Johnson to the hill.

NYY: LHP Randy Johnson

? 5-4, 3.92 ERA in 2005

? 1-1, 3.95 vs. MIL in 2004

@

MIL: LHP Doug Davis

? 7-5, 3.62 ERA in 2005

? 2-1, 6.62 ERA lifetime vs. NYY

How 'bout a little add on to the Brewers TV Crew drinking game. Drink (however many times) each time Daron and Bill rave about Jeter's defense. Also, do a multiplier for each time Daron says "Past a diving Jeter!". Just a thought.

I will be playing the "Brewer's Drinking Game" tonight in the chatroom, and it will indeed be a special "Yankee's Edition".

I was going to make up rules but only really need one. Drink anytime Bill and Sutton suck up to the Yankees in anyway. Anything about their stories past, Jeter's "clutchness", Big Unit being a future HOF, Yankee Stadium being the greatest... ANYTHING. It will be difficult NOT to vomit up my cheap beer listening to those guys, but I will try!

Who's with me!!??

You may not hear too much about Jeter, other than "Out of the lineup tonight."

This from the Yankee website:

Quote:
They could have Derek Jeter back to help cope with Davis, who has already won seven games. Jeter missed the final two games of the Minnesota series with a debilitating chest cold.

"I wanted to give him one more day. With [Monday's] night game, he has a better chance of being in there," Torre said.

That seems to mean to me that he will be in the lineup. I interpret it as saying that Torre gave him the day off yesterday so he could rest on Sunday and all day Monday before playing the night game. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I read it.

brettac's right.

Nope. I started this thread, so I AM correct. No doubt about it, I am ALWAYS right. Well, ok- I sort of thought that quote lead the reader to believe Jeter -would indeed play- the opener against the Brewers, but I also felt that a "debilitating" chest cold may also hold him off one more day. Maybe it's wishfull thinking. That yankee lineup is so deep that it would be nice to catch a break.

I'll be at the game tonight. And Tuesday night and Wednesday night. I can't wait to tell Mr. Sheffield how much I've missed him.

Johnson's been very generous this year with the home runs... Here's hoping the Crew can get after him early and put some balls in the stands.

The roof better be open, I don't care how windy it is... Tonight's going to be a perfect night for baseball, sans the scattered rainshowers.

With Miller out we should not expect to see JJ. I checked and he is hitting 320 since he went back to his old stance and attitude. I hope he gets into the line up to see if this is just small sample or a trend we can look forward to.

Please think carefully before you post next time... Logic and reason have no place in constructing a lineup card.

I can't wait to hear the ovation for Richard Sheffield in the first inning. I wish I could be there myself.

I guess I'm in the EXTREME minority of people on this board who actually like Gary Sheffield, (me being a yankee fan as well as a brewer fan). I guess thats probably due to the fact that i never really followed the Brewers that closely until a few years ago. Well I'm leaving to go to the game now, hopefully we can knock RJ around!

"Extreme" probably doesn't even begin to describe it when you talk about this board. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I don't think a lot of Yankee fans like him, but that's just my opinion.

I am VERY pumped up for this game. I can't wait. I have been so excited to see the Brewers play the Yankees that I could not concentrate at work today.

I would personally rather see McGruder play tonight. I guess Jenkins had a good game yesterday so I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
