6/23/05 Cubs (Rusch) @ Brewers (Sheets) 1:05 CST

This is former Brewer Glendon Rusch. Glendon is a south paw. As a Brewer, Glendon's paw didn't work very well. Here is a little information about Glendon:

? 5-3, 2.89 ERA in 2005

? 1-0, 0.00 ERA vs. MIL in 2005

And now for Mr. Benjamin Sheets: Ben (or Big Ben as he's known around here) Right-handed ace Ben Sheets will make his 10th start of the season and his fifth since a five-week term on the disabled list with an inner-ear infection. He won his last start at Toronto by limiting the Jays to two runs, one earned, in eight innings of his longest start since the DL stint. He is 1-2 in three starts at Miller Park with an outstanding 1.40 ERA, including a win over the Yankees on June 7, when Sheets pitched seven shutout innings.

? 3-6, 3.19 ERA in 2005

? 0-1, 5.14 ERA vs. CHC in 2005

For all of you Butch Wynegar haters out there, here's a little something for you:

Rusch hasn't let in more than 2 ER's in any start this year except against NYY and Bos... I don't think this is going to be as easy as it looks. Granted his secondary numbers are worse than his ERA.

I doubt it, Rusch has been excellent as a Cub, and especially against the Brewers. It would be helpful to look up his numbers before calling it one-sided, considering they're better than Sheets'. He's 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA, and last year he was 6-2 with a 3.47. Hardly a "pile of garbage".

Yeah, Glendon is not in a Brewer uniform anymore so he seems to be a different guy out on the mound. I'd have to agree that this is not a total blowout, but I still think we should win the game.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, I think WGN is showing the game today. Not sure of blackout restrictions, just though I'd point it out especially for those out of market.

It looks like we have our "B" squad going today. Then again some of them may be better than what has been in their place. (cough, Jenkins, cough)

Wouldn't want to give Ben any run support, would we?

What kind of crap lineup is that? I'm pulling out my hair, I swear to god. Why has Ben never been a 20-game winner? Because he never gets the run support (that and the whole Vertigo-esque thing he has going on). So what do we do? We put his destiny on the backs of wes Helms, Magruder and Jeff Cirillo.

I'm so mad i could spit (trust me, I wanted to say something more manly, but I dont want to face the wrath of the censor police).

This has to be the most one-sided pitching matchup in the history of one-sided pitching matchups. Rusch is such a pile of garbage, the Brewers should put up about 10 runs on him in about 3 innings, I figure.

Right, because of the Brewers solid track record of just torching left handers. If Sheets is on, the two runs the Brewers score might give them a chance.

Who would you have out there against the lefty taht is going to make the line-up better? Jenkins? Overbay? Fielder? JJ Hardy?

With the possible, possible exception of Overbay, I don't see how any of them help.

So tired of lineup haters....Jenkins and Overbay are where they should be, the bench. Miller has done....nothing...so Moeller can do at least that. How about we let things play out. Magruder is lifetime 2 X 2 against Rusch. Jenkins 3 X10....Overbay 1X6 and Helms 2X13. Nothing to get excited about. Go Crew.

Well the good news is, Rusch usually leaves by the middle of the 6th inning even when he's pitching well. The cubs bullpen is not very good, so if we can keep it close until the 6th I like our chances given the quality of pinch hitters we have on the bench.
