7/7/05 Brewers (Santos) vs. Marlins (Moehler) 12:05 CST

mikerollins

I'm not saying the Brewers would pull off something like this, but the Indians are something like 20-9 since canning Eddie Murray.

That stellar run and the firing could be completely unrelated...or maybe not. In reality, it's probably somewhere in the middle. I've thought a change wouldn't hurt since May, and nothing I've seen since has really changed my mind.

And for the record, I think we have zero shot at the wild card either way.

Regarding Lyle, he has something like a .650 OPS since May 15. I know he's streaky - but that is pathetic. Hopefully he gets it figured out again soon.

I guess a split on the road isn't too bad. It's disappointing to play terrible baseball after winning the first two games. It would have been nice to do more and you hate to embarrass yourself. But I can live with a split against a good team on the road.

Atlanta will be a tough test. The Brewers better step it up on defense and improve the concentration out there.

I may be wrong. Please correct if I am.

If i recall to the beginning of last season, the talk was The Crew will not be that good, but at least they will be able to score runs. Their offense was pretty good until about the end of June and then fell off the planet, a run that is now over a year long. This team has been in an offensinve funk for a long time. At times ok, but not consistant. A change with Butch couldn't be worse.......could it?

Exactly. Our offense blows right now so we might as well try something new and since we aren't going to shakeup the lineup (via trade) we might as well get rid of Wynegar. Maybe once our guys see that their inability to get things done at the plate cost their coach his job they will rally around it and take it up a notch.

A change with Lopes couldn't have been worse.......could it have? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Like I said, I don't think Butch is God's gift to hitting coaches, but I don't think the Brewers would rally around a Wynegar firing. If several of the hitters were in a prolonged slump, I might think differently...

Team OPS: 17th out of 30

Team payroll: 27th out of 30

I think you guys have unrealistic expectations of this team.

Batting coachs are not given lifetime terms a la supreme court judges. The team is horrible offensively and there needs to be a shakeup. Wynegar is the fall guy. Sorry Butch. There needs to be a change and the first to go is the batting coach.

Why are you guys so opposed to firing the BC? Because "nothing is going to change"? Not good enough. We know for SURE nothing will change if the status quo is maintained. Something MIGHT click if a change is made.

Butch seems like a really nice guy and I would be sad to see him go, but it goes with the job. If the team doesn't hit, the BC hits the road.

Talent wise and coaching wise this team is ok. It is EXECUTION-wise they fail. It is MENTAL-wise they fail

How can can Jenks miss a cutoff guy TWO times in a game. Are you kidding me!!!

I am trying to find the post that I nominate as post of the year. It was something like:

This is a .600 team talent-wise.

and a .400 team brain-wise.

(Actually it was more clever than my paraphrase)

It is TRUE TRUE TRUE

What can we do to make these bumbleheads play NORMAL. We only ask they play NORMAL with their talent.

Now guys who say the talent is low, the payroll is low, the expectations should be low... I just do not agree with you. In EVERY position we are OK. And our pitching is better than OK.

I feel we should scare the last playoff spot. But mentally we are blowing it. We are very close to being sellers at the deadline. We have a big decision to make. Remember Ned and Doug and Mark were talking how we should be way above .500 and in wild card hunt. The management of the team thinks this. And this is correct thinking.

How does the team who's just BARELY below the median of team OPS's, especially considering their payroll, have a horrible offense, scoop?

Because their pitching staff is among the best in the league and they still have lost far more games than they have won.

[ Because their pitching staff is among the best in the league and they still have lost far more games than they have won. ]

It wouldn't have anything to do with the number of close games lost and the fourth lowest payroll in the league, right?

Butch should be able to take this team of 40M players and turn them into a top half of the league performing offense! Let's ignore the fact that they already gained 40 points in team OPS last year while having a not-ready-for-primtime rookie like Hardy drag things down as he's gaining some traction.

Scoop, you're smarter than this. I think you have a case of Wynegar bloodlust here because they've had two bad offensive performances in a row.

[ So Brian...are you saying that the Brewers have the 27th least talented team in the league? ]

No. What i'm saying is that relative to their payroll positioning, they're actually doing quite well.

My point was not to totally equate payroll and talent, but to not factor in payroll to success would be a bit shortsighted.
