Oh wait Santos is pitching. We lose 2-1

More like 7-1 lately with Santos. No matter what the Brewers did against Pedro last time, they will still have to play very well to win. Certainly not out of the realm of possibilities.

I know you don't want to get into this Ralph. I understand every game is equally important when looking at wins and losses but you do have to admit that some games are more important when considering other factors. This is a big game tonight.

The Brewers are 2 games under .500 and there is 2 months to go in the season. How the HECK could this be a "big game"? What factor am I missing? I beg you not to say "wild card."

Whether we want to admit it or not (with the chance of being let down) we ARE in the wild card chase. How can we not be. We are 5.5 games back with 2 months to go with many opportunites to catch the teams ahead of us.

I think tonights game is huge for many reasons

#1 Our last 3 game winning streak was June 30-July 2. Wouldn't it be nice to win 3 in a row.

#2 First game of a difficult 9 game stretch against teams with winning records

#3 Pedro is pitching tomorrow

#4 Good teams win series in August and September and taking the first game in a 3 game series is pretty important.

Now, if you want to think this game isn't big or think that we have no chance for the wild-card, why would you get so bad and so defensive when calling this a big game (must win) It is obvious you don't want to be part of the hype because you feel if you don't risk any emotions into this game then you won't be as let down if they lose

Why can't we (as Brewer FANS) talk about the wild-card when sports writers are saying stuff such as...

"Ben Sheets is back to being a flat-out stud, going 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA in July and quietly putting the upstart Brew Crew in the NL wild-card race -- no foolin'."

I think is stupid if people are saying talking about the wildcard is foolish. Why? Why can't we as fans hope for something like that. You know what? This game is a big game because we will probably lose tommarow against Pedro and losing these two will for sure make us lose this series. Whether we're shoot for 500 or a wildcard or even the division champs, we can't lose series. So tongiht is a big (dare i say it) must win game.

I am actually sort of tired of the Brewer fan we all know at work or the in-law or wherever who insists that this team can't make the postseason. They can. Hell, by the end of the week Milwaukee might be 3 games out with almost a 1/3 of the season to go.

Look at the above qoute. It has no perspective. What if we were talking about San Diego or Arizona in that quote? Would it still be hard to call games like this "big"? No. It doesnt matter what our record is right now. Our record floating in a vacuum doesn't matter. What matters is Milwaukees record in comparison to the rest of the teams in the league. That is why that quote is meaningless.

If Ned and the boys can somehow catch lightening in a bottle over the next couple of weeks and win 10 of 15 then you better believe the Brewers will be in the hunt. Is it all a longshot? Yes. Is it impossible? Far from it. 2 games under .500 is meaningless. Just ask the D-Backs and Padres.

Because home team fans are inherently the toughest on their team. Just listen to WSSP and you'd think the sky was falling everyday!

... off to Lincoln Financial this weekend where the Brewers have never won a game. .........

Is that because the Brewers have never played at Lincoln Financial, or is the Eagles defense just too good against our front seven?

This assures me not only will we lose tonight's game, but we will also be swept in the series. I'm predicting it now. Everytime we get all excited before a series it turns into a horrible letdown.

I'm going to go start the "We're 5 games under .500, we need to sweep the Phillies" thread right now!

I couldnt agree more with the criticism of people asking "please dont say wildcard" Why should we not hope for the best. The people who talk like this are not fans, they may like sports but they just jump on a winning or losing bangwagon. We are only 5.5 out this late in the season. Hell if we were any large market, every night on BBTN they would have been talking about us for trades and what needs to be done to make the late season push.

Reality is we have the brewers, small town america, and we are going to win someday with a much smaller payroll and because we have management who has to work for what we got. Just imagine for a second if this was the NFL or NBA where teams are much closer in payroll. We would have something like 100 plus million to spend in free agency or trades etc... We are not that far off now but if we even had 50 million to spend we could add some major pieces. We just dont have as much to @#%$ about as we think.

Well, who wouldn't?

Seriously, though, it should be clear that everyone here is a Brewer fan...if you disagree with someone, that's fine, but please don't suggest they are less a fan than anyone esle.

Please, stop. The fact that we're 5.5 out is not the only thing that matters here. You also have to consider that we have 63 teams to pass to get the WC. The team that gets the WC will have won a minimum of 87 games (and probably 2-3 more than that), IMO. Do you honestly believe that this Brewers team is capable of winning anywhere close to 90 games? We're not even at .500 yet.

You can hope all you want, and I'm cheering for it, too. But, to suggest that those of us that choose to be realistic are any less of a fan, is... well... let's just leave it at that, before I say something I'll regret in the morning.

I'm not being hard on the team, I'm being realistic. I look at the wildcard standings every day, just like you guys. I hold out for the smallest of hope (BP gives us a 4% chance of post season play) just like you guys. What I don't do is lose my objectivety when gauging the realistic chances for the Brewers this year.

As I've said before, the fact that everyone only quotes the 5.5 games back shows that they don't understand the real issue. There are SIX teams ahead of the Brewers and 1 a half game behind. We have to beat ALL of those teams to win the wildcard. That's just about insermountable odds right there.

The way the Astros are going, it will take ATLEAST 88 wins to make the wildcard. The Brewers would have to finish the season on a 36-20 tear to get that (.643 winning %), and that's being optimistic.

You guys can all say that I'm wrong and you feel they have a real chance, but I bet you wouldn't bet on it. Heck, I bet you wouldn't bet on it at 10:1 odds. I sure would take those odds if they were offered.

The fan side of me will continue to check those wildcard standings every day. The realist in me simply looks at this year as a stepping stone for next, where they might have a REAL shot at the playoffs.

I am by no means saying any of you are elss fans than others because that is just plain stupid seeing that you all had to come seek this site out and write on it. And anyone searching for a brewer message board site has to be a fan. but why not hope for the wild card? While we still have a chance and are in the hunt....why not? I mean when is the last time we had the opportunity to even think about it come August? If it doesnt happen it doesn't happen. Once they are way out of it then we can all gun for 500. Who cares? Why say we have no chance....we're 5.5 back..of coarse we have a chance. Things can happen. Lyle, geoff, lee, clark could all go hotter than hot and we could pull off 10 in a row. Or we could just as easily lose 10 in a row. We have a chance. We are BREWER fans and we have a chance of a WC on August 2nd?! How cool is that?
