Lee's month by month OPS...

2001 - 830, 896, 877, 868, 651, 655

2002 - 703, 771, 933, 844, 770, 1112

2003 - 839, 823, 726, 884, 870, 859

2004 - 816, 752, 820, 1134, 961, 934

2005 - 647, 977, 1051, 711, 734

How you can look at those numbers and say Lee isn't extremely streaky is beyond me. Jenkins is a harder read since he was hurt 2 of the past 4 years.

2001 - 1101, 817, 679, 543, 828 was hurt a bunch in there so erratic AB

2002 - 751, 736, 837 - very consistant then hurt

2003 - 939,. 763, 1027, 746, 1160

2004 - 851, 672, 749, 712, 867, 937, 944

2005 - 699, 738, 790, 1112, 1012

How you can look at those two numbers and say one is streakier than the other is beyond me, other than maybe Lee's 2003 they are both all over the place. When you talk about Lee's hitting you have to conclude that he is a streaky hitter, there is no other conclusion. This year by far Lee has been streakier than Jenkins though.

This is just plain weird. I made this post just as the game ended:

Ben: "I'm finishing this off".

Yost: "You're getting up there, 115 pitches"

Ben: "I said, I'm finishing this off, I've got his one"

Yost: "If you let a guy on I'm yanking ya"

Ben: "Not going to happen"

Yost: "Go get 'em"

GAME OVER.

And after reading this article my comments are weirdly similar to what was actually said.

``Benny came in and said he felt good and could finish. I told him I was thinking of Turnbow and he said, `I feel great. Let me finish it." Sheets said, "I felt real good and thought I could get three more outs,''

Kinda cool.

Yeah Ennder, if you look at the OPS's by month individually, then yeah, they both look equally streaky.

BUT, if you look at them in the order they actually occur in the season you will see it this way as I had already stated in another thread:

First, they month by month OPS's of both players for the last 6 years:

Splits by Month 01-05

Jenkins

01 Up and down like you wouldn't believe

1.101

.817

.679

.543

.917

.828

02 Can't use only a third of a seasons stats to prove anything

Injury Year

03 Up and down much?!?

.939

.763

1.027

.746

1.160

04 Couple big months saves him again

.851

.672

.749

.712

.867

.937

05 One excellent month which isn't even done with, the rest mediocre

.699

.738

.790

1.238 (going down? I think so)

Lee

01 Consistently good most of the season, dropped off at the end

.830

.896

.877

.868

.651

.655

02 Have to admit, pretty up and down

.703

.771

.933

.844

.770

1.112

03 Could he be more consistent?!?

.839

.823

.726

.884

.870

.859

04 Pretty darn consistently good. Only 1 bad month.

.816

.752

.820

1.134

.961

.934

05 Bad start, 2 amazing months, July horrible so far, but I'd argue it isn't over yet.

.647

.977

1.051

.569 (going up? I think so

SECONDLY, each individual jump up or down from month to month...for example, June .900 OPS, July .600 OPS, August .850 OPS. There are two jumps of .250 points from month to month. But if you look at them singularly you only see two good OPS's and one bad one. That's not what we're looking at though, we're looking at streakiness, meaning meaning how consistent.

So, after defining that I included:

Jenkins has had changes of 100 pts, and actually 136 pts or more in OPS from month to month of:

184

138

136

374

176

264

281

414

179

155

448

Lee:

217

262

342

314

330

482

From 01-05, Jenkins has had ups/downs in OPS of 136 pts or more 11 times.

From 01-05 , Lee has had ups/downs in OPS of 100 pts or more only 6 times.

EDIT: Seeing as Jenkins only played 5 seasons to Lee's 6 I think we can all come to the same conclusion.

Lee has on average 1 bad month per season. Jenkins has 2.

I hope I never have to watch MLB gameday as the only means of following the Crew.

No TV and no radio me Nik go something something..

No doubt...I'm used to having to listen to the games on the internet here in Chicago, but my wife and I were up in Milwaukee for the day and wanted to go watch the game at Friday's Front Row, only to discover Miller Park was packed full of the feathered-hair set watching Bon Jovi...no dice. So we drove around for half an hour looking for a place that had the MLB package before we finally gave up. Ridiculous that they're not showing a road game on a Saturday night on local TV.

Ned, I think you are doing a good job managing lately. It is almost like there have not been too many things we can complain about, and the games have been close.

Today was super. I really agreed with Ben staying in. But I notice one poster said Ben lost the two decisions this year after high pitch counts. So, I will be so interested to see how he goes next start.

Well, Crew. You have no hope in the wild card.... but why dont you win tomorrow and at least let us wonder a little.

This team is so good to watch right now. They never get blown out (hardly ever) and they are seeming to be developing some good, good attitude and mental toughness.

Why is it that in nearly every other case....

A-OPS is considered the best measuring tool to compare players

B-Baseball is considered a sport where stats "even out" over the course of the season and breaks will offset things like getting robbed.

......UNTIL we start talking about Carlos Lee vs Geoff Jenkins. Then all of a sudden we are breaking down every week of the year in some attempt to show that Lee is more valuable even though Jenks is blowing him away in OPS. I just dont get why is so hard to get the majority of Brewer fans to admit that Jenkins doesnt suck and that he is outplaying Lee.

I'm not going into this other than to say that Jenkins is twice as streaky and I was prompted to "prove" with statistics that it was true. So using OPS (their stat) showed that. Whereas any other fan can tell you that Jenkins is in the top 5 of the most streaky players in baseball.

Lee this year has also been streaky...but over their careers not nearly as much as Jenkins.

The question is, do you want a guy you know will give you an OPS of .830-.890 or a guy who may give you an OPS of .900 or just as easily one of .760?

Um no, the majority of that streakiness of Jenkins was in 2001 when he was injured off and on. Look at his AB by month that year... 89, 46, 85, 62, 12, 82... Face it, they are both streaky guys. Other than 2002 when he was very consistant Lee has been a very streaky guy his entire career.
