8/27 Braves (Smoltz) vs. Brewers (Helling) 6:05 Uecker Night

SheetsCyYoung04

Just got back from the game. We did not have tickets prior to the game, so I went to the first base side of Helfaer (sp?) Field and snagged a pair for $50 (207 row 9 seats 16-17). We were in the section with a ton of Culvers employees, and the people next to us (Mom,Dad, and a teenage boy) bought tix from a scalper too. The family lives in LaCrosse and bought about two hundred bucks worth of souviners. The kid was a big time fan so he and I were chatting it up a bit, I told him to check out this site. I hope he does.

I wish I could say the same about the folks behind us. A couple girls and guys in their twenties who had -literally- no idea of what was going on, which sort of broke up the horrific feelings of watching the Crew fall apart. mary and I overheard parts of their conversation:

"What does A.B. mean?" --- At Bats came a reply

"What does OBP mean?" --- Overall Batting Percentage." (I laughed)

"What does S.B. mean?" --I think sac bunts, not sure. (Mary laughed)

and then my favorite:

"Why didn't our guys do a double play?" I wanted to stand up, turn around and smack them all and yell: "Ya can't turn a double play when there is nobody else on base you morons!"

Anyhow, I had the feeling that the Crew would be using Johnny Wholestaff on the hill, and sure enough, they did. We gave up lots of hits, and it seemed that our pitchers were behind everybody, nowhere near the strike zone, and throwing stuff short of the plate.

I find it apparent that Rick Helling is a parallel move to the Vampire, not an improvement- he tossed 81 pitches 41 of them were for balls, and I saw nothing over 90 MPH. Santos could not find the strike zone with a map and a tour guide. Maybe Ohka should have started the game, I dunno.

Seeing the infield with Uecker's signature and Fifty Years was pretty neat, and having his name up on the wall is very nice to see.

Other than the goofs behind us, the kid next to us, and the Uecker honor, the game itself sucked after the fifth inning.

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

This game was a drag, but if you want to talk demoralizing, that was Friday, in the end.

At least last night, there was a chance Big Ben misses only a start or two, if that. I come to turn the gameday audio on the computer tonight and I find out that he's on the DL. And then I go out to eat dinner with my wife, excited after after Billy Hall's homer and come back afterwards to find this hot mess...ugh.

I still think the Crew has a good shot at .500 but it does seem like the corner this team needs to turn is always a step ahead of them

I went to the game and could only get rightfield bleacher seats. It was my first time sitting there and it was kinda fun because 2 guys kept giving some pitcher named Boyer in the Atlanta pen a hard time.Suprisingly Boyer was talking smack right back at the two guys and this went on for quite a few innings.

I did get to watch Farnsworth warm up super close up,wow i couldnt imagine trying to just make any contact on a single one of his pitches. That dude throws really really hard.

I had a feeling tonight was going to be godawful right away when Daron mentioned Sheets going on the disabled list.

I was actually getting a little dillusional watching Helling pitch. I noticed that he pitched like absolute crap the first two innings, but I kept saying to myself, "only three more and he's done...he goes five and we have a chance." Well, I could handle Helling collapsing. I was desperately hoping anyone other than Santos would come in. Eveland was less than impressive. Then I saw Ohka and was wondering how his next start was going to be. At that point, I turned on The Whole Nine Yards.

I look at the box score of this game, and there aren't a whole lot of positives. With Sheets gone, I don't know as though the Brewers can get the 18 wins that they need to reach 82. It looked like a possibility halfway through yesterday's game. It's amazing how quickly things can change in 24 hours.

I feel a little better, this was my first depressed post. Ah hell, tomorrow's another day.

That game was painful to watch, especially on TBS. At least I was able to sit in my favorite chair and create my own version of the Cactus League nachos.

Although we won't be calling up Gus Gandarillas and Ron Rightonowar this September, the pitching staff, particularly the bullpen, is really going to have to step it up if we are going to make it past .500.

Am I the only one that thinks that Dana Eveland's stat line will be worse than Tommy Phelps' by the end of the year?

Go Brewers

I was at the game last night...we had really good seats, and it was nice being there for Bob Uecker night, but boy, they gave up the lead twice...that was really upsetting. Their pitching is just losing games for them lately. When you give up 17 hits to Atlanta, you know it's going to get ugly.
