The wife and I will be there tonight, gotta buy tickets from a scalper though. Helling vs Smoltz? Yikes.

Brewers couldn't win this game if Atlanta were to forefit.

Yost couldn't out manage a chimp.

Helling couldn't give up less than three runs to a scout troop.

blah blah blah....

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

Fear not, Brewer fans. If Smoltz outpitches us as is predicted, let's hope it's a close game so Chris Reitsma can come in and blow the save. He has blown a save in 2 of Smoltz's last 3 outings (8/10 & 8/16). So Smoltz has had a little hard luck lately, here's to piling it on GP style.
"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

Well, this pitching matchup does have a Christians vs. lions feeling that is hard to shake. But how many times this season have the Brewers done the unexpected?

They've been closing with Farnsworth lately.

Yeah, I didn't realize they had him until the scoreboard indicated he was warming up in the Braves bullpen last night. At the time I was thinking, sure, bring him on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

For those that didn't see it, FSN North did a very nice introductory piece about Bob Uecker featuring comments from a host of famous baseball people. Jim Powell is interviewing Ueck right now, too, which is quite cool.

Good job, FSN.

***

Checking out Uecker's Baseball-Reference.com page, he had quite a bit of plate discipline. While his career batting average was only .200, his career on-base average was a not-bad-by-comparison .293. Amazingly, that is actually higher than his career slugging average (.287). He walked 96 times in 731 at-bats... twelve of those were intentional (!), and he was also hit by three pitches. He must have batted eighth quite a bit.

Cool stuff.

Play Ball and thanks Bud for your unwavering effort keeping a team in your hometown where without you the 42,000 people there tonight would not be celebrating 50 yrs of Ueck! The Brewers are on the upswing for the first time in a very long time so let's get this one tonight and gain some ground.

Brewers Baseball: Love it!

Now Rick Helling remember to throw some breaking balls.

true BrewCity. Selig made it happen. I don't think I'd ever want to be in his position. He's done a fine job, sans All-Star game decision. And I actually thought Mark A. would be a better speaker, but boy did he sound monotone and nervous. Oh well, with Benny's condition and it being Uecker night, there is no better time for a win...
