I don't like the doctrinaire refusal to use Turnbow in anything other than a save situation, but we do have other guys who aren't chopped liver.

Maybe I'm just feeling mellow after surviving a day at the mall with the in-laws (who are lovely people; it's the mall that drains my life force), but I can't feel too bad about this one. Roy Oswalt and Jeff Bagwell beat us. No duh -- they're really, really good. The fact that Rick freakin' Helling is continuing to do his best Pedro Martinez impression just boggles my mind.

I do wonder what the past ten days have done to our pythagorean win expectation (I'm too lazy to check).

Greg.

Is it time for Weeks to take some serious time off? If what we've seen of late is all he's capable of, it sure looks to me like he is suffering from some combination of fatigue and that thumb. It might be time to say that it may be better for both he and the team if he spends more time on the bench than the field for the remainder of the year.

Letting Eveland pitch the 9th, especially to Bagwell with the game on the line is just moronic! Hasn't Yost noticed that Eveland's Batting Average Allowed is over .300? Hasn't Yost noticed that Bagwell is Hall of Fame caliber, especially against lefties? Our guys are facing Brad Lidge the last 2 innings and their guys are facing a soft-tossing rookie in the last inning who was in AA most of the season --- what a bad joke!

Perhaps Yost doesn't want to finish at .500 quite yet this season. That way, they can make that their target once again next season.

Ned is brain-dead!

Tonight, at least.

Where's Turnbow, Kane Davis, any righty at all in this situation ... jeepers, creepers! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif

They get to hit off a guy who gives up an atrocious .300-plus batting average who pitched most of the season at AA while we get to hit against All-Star Brad Lidge!

Duh, why are the Astros playing to win, and we are not? If they're gonna' use Lidge, we gotta' use Turnbow! Good grief, Ned! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/sick.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/nerd.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif

I don't really see it as "doctrinaire" he hasn't blown that many saves, and has a good number of wins/losses. This tells me that he's pitched in plenty of non-save situations this year.

Maybe its more of a recent phenomenon. I agree with Ralph in that I don't mind Eveland pitching in that situation.

Frustrating Loss!

i really would've liked to have seen turnbow in there as well, if for no other reason than i can't imagine bagwell being able to touch a turnbow fastball in his current condition. if he retires bagwell, he could've gone in the bottom of the 10th as well.

i appreciate wanting to keep him for a save situation, but that really does us no good if we don't make it out of the 9th. my philosophy in that situation is to do anything you can to make it out of that inning, and if you're fortunate enough to take the lead at some point and put yourself in a save situation, deal with it then.
